Deano1351 Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Well done Geoff thats gonna be sweet when its done, ill let my brother (aden) know about this thread, hes had loads of xe's so he should know what the bolts are for
livewire7116 Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 The 10 6 pointed torx bolts are for the head the M6 long cap head bolts are for the cam cover The spigot bearing you have goes in the rear of the crank for RWD use The cam caps are number 1 to 10 or 11 im not sure as i not looked at mine for a while. The 2 large cap head bolts im not to sure about whats the thread size and bolt length? looking at the pic of the head you have the cams wrong way round ie inlet is on ex side and vice versa make sure you have the correct pulleys to go with crank pulley, the xe used round and square toothed belts
aden Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 the bolts are as limewire said mate, the cam retainer caps if i remember right are numbered 1 from front left hand side clockwise to front right hand side! i will double check for you!
aden Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 cam caps go 1 to 5 on inlet cam front to back of head caps 6 to 11 go on ex cam front to back of head according to tis 2000 (vauxhall workshop manual) !

livewire7116 Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 The con rod bolts should be changed to arp as matter of course, rear of head is done differently to mine but as long as it works, you can use a manta dizzy set up on the front of the engine but will need to make own bracket or keep eyes open on ebay best way is an mbe ecu so as you modify the engine it can be re mapped to suit Std head gasket will do fine for upto 230 bhp as well. you will need to modify your ex cam as well to clear the blanking plate or use a 2nd inlet cam

c20xe Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 The female torx bolts are head bolts, the male torx bolts are head bolts, they need binning cos they are stretch bolts ie single use,you could replace these with a ARP head stud kit, replace the con rod bolts with an ARP kit as well.It looks from the photos, that you have an early cambelt set up ,so the bottom end may have forged pistons, but the head is a late dispack casting,as this engine seems to me to be a bit of a mix and match,I would make sure you can identify all the components and make sure they are compatable before you put it together, for example, with the cams measure the lift to make sure you havn't got a set of LET cams. The bolts for the main bearings, big end bearings ,head, crankshaft and flywheel are stretch bolts and should be renewed on assembly. The XE on 45's should make around 190 BHP if well set up.
