Savvi Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Got a s ierra turbo diesel in my mk1 escort van,not intercooled but 100bhp,not an easy swop, but if I was doing it again I would use the pug 1900 diesel,a much more tunable engine and probably just as much hassle to transplant Got any pics and an install guide for this one ? I quite fancy running a diesel myself.
c20xe Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 I would forget the old Ford 1.8 TD. In my opinion it's the worst engine ever made. Had one in a P100 and it was absolutely hopeless. Actually it's not a Ford but an old Perkins construction for stationary use as in a coolingmachine or generator. My opinion... The 1800td was a evolution of the 1600 diesel that was developed by ford in conjunction with Deutz.Stop smoking the the funny cigarettes,my opinion.....
countrybumpkin Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 you want to use the 1800 non turbo it has huge power well that what i keep telling my self as it my mk4 escot van struggels up the smallest of hills
bortaf Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Not a bad engine the sierra TD but deffo not the best pug lump is way more tuinable but not as easy to fit gearbox wise The later Mondeo engine was better not sure what exactly what was differant between that and the sierra
Gonzo Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 An intercooler for one. Old man's got the non-turbo 1800 in his fiesta van. Yes, it's pretty asthmatic, but fully loaded with camping gear and booze, we managed to get it up to an indicated 95 [give or take 10mph, wink wink] on the M25 and it'd sit at that speed all day. Personally, I think they're very underrated motors. You just gotta know how to drive 'em.
DarrenM Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 All 1.8 TD's are not equal! The good ones are the pre endura ones before 96 ish. My daily hack is a '95 N reg Escort and on my sat nav has seen 112 mph on the flat (in Germany ) Demolishes small petrol engined cars and flattens hills.
