isnt it strange how the old ford scene is hated by everyone?

 

think about it..

 

the modern car owners hate us cos we are old and by their minds we should all drive modern cars not rot boxes.

 

the modified cars hate us cos we are louder than them, cooler than them and faster than them

 

the classic cars hate us cos we are the boy racers. we modify, we make them loud, we go fast and have a laugh without the aid of a tweed jacket or a pipe.

 

for instance when the scarborough locals gate crashed a car show yesterday my dad heard someone comment 'OH LOOK THE FORDS ARE HERE' ....we got so many looks of disgust it was unbelieveable

 

it seems the only people who like us old boy racers..are other old boy racers

agreed, hot saxos are quick point to point cars and the 106GTi is just awesome... but thats because things have moved on as they do!

I have some respect for some of the GTi/Hot hatches... you have to (mk1 Golf/205Gti)... but the chavs and the scene that has adopted them, well.... fookem

The thing is if you go on a classic car site ... they don't have a thread slating the 70's fords.

 

And as for them slating us for lowering and fitting non standard engines, shit i've lost count of how many times i've been called a butcher on here

 

And to be honest, i've only heard good things from the modern modders, they look at the OSF's as the grandaddies and even walk over and have a good look with that " want one" look in their eyes.

 

I've never heard one slate an OSF, a few owners yes , but not the cars.

 

Same with the classic and vintage brigade, they are happy that the future vintages are kept alive, and the ones i've met have a giggle about the cars and compare them to the Austin 7 specials or when faced with a cossied Escort they mention the Bentley blowers.

 

Some of the OSF Bufty sites can get quite visious in their attacks on some of the cars i and others like me have built.

 

Same as when you hear about a "Chaved up motor" .... just look back at the 70's .... wobbly jack up kits, porthole windows, foxes tails on a 30ft mast, rear arches almost covering the wheels, big spoilers, they had the lot, including the paint jobs.

 

We're all car nuts with differing tastes, we should, all be able to get on, without the bitching, and to be honest, walking into a show with "they are gonna hate us " attitude is bound to cause friction.

 

I'm not a fan of vintage motors, they have a place, some are crafted beautifully, the engines under some of the hoods look spectacular, and the owners of them have some great stories if you give them time to tell... like hand casting a part, then machining it with home tools as the parts no longer avalible .... or ' its been in the family since it was built in 1907, spent a bit of time in WW1 as a gun carriage, was re-bodied in 1919 by Charlston Coachbodies into this 2 door coupe, carried my mum and dad and us kids in the dickie seat all around Europe, 19 of the family have arrived at church in it, buried a few too, .... etc etc

 

Some of the stories those old buffers have are amazing ... spent hours listening to a bloke who took his Vanguard across the states and up into canada before hitting Alaska .. his friend sitting beside him was shipped to singapore and he then went on to Austrailia with his. ... hours of tales, both funny and sad.

But all with one thing in common... THE CARS

Couldn't give a nuns chuff what anyone thinks TBH, i like old fords so i drive old fords, allways have and allways will, long after the "scene monkys" have abandoned ship

I can't knock new cars cos they are all way way better than the old stuff i drive, i just prefer me old stuff is all

Lets face it the reason most people knock the old ford scene is the reaction it gives off when anyone points out what a bunch of weirdos we are (and we are)

agree with retromotorsport its all about the stories about the cars 1 old boy told me that he changed the wheels on his armstrong siddley and used it as a plough not really sure wot he was on about or wot an armstrong siddley is but it made me smile

another old boy had his fordson major there. now i'm not into old tractors but i could tell by talking to him that he was as passionate about that as i am about the anglia its all about getting your car out and meeting people

i would of done if the following had applied:

1. i dont know shit about engines

2. we were the ones being looked at in disgust and iven teh filthy looks like we shouldnt be there

3. with regards to the above then 'fook em'

4. there were already 4 guys under the bonnet and too many cooks spoil the broth.
