PIG Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 goggle the saxo and the rs2000/mexico antz and compare
tim Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 you sure the flithy looks because you had a 4 door rather than it just being a ford?
antz Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 you sure the flithy looks because you had a 4 door rather than it just being a ford? quite possibly! after all im not cool enough for a 2 door i still say a saxo cant beat a rs2k...it all depends on certain aspect. straight line then yes it may be faster but round a corner i bet the rs2000 would own it
antz Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 ,if you say so fella well ive never seen a rs2000 race or driven a saxo so im just guessing here and cos my cars a 4 door and obviously heavier then its unfair for me to race one. anyone got a standard rs2k and a standard saxo vts or vtr we can race against each other?

If you had, then you wouldnt be arguing that the RS2 is faster on the bends or the straights Peugeot hot hatches, and their citreon counterparts, are renowned for their handling for a good reason

bmxdave Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I go to the kidz clubs (boy racers) and the granny meets (the classics) and i get plenty of attention at both. Some of the younguns dont know what it is, and they like the fact its quicker then it looks. In all honesty ive never had a bad comment. The old ones are ok too. The ones who dont like it tend to just walk past, the others come over and are normally surprised by the engine. About 30% of all people who look at it, including old fellas love it to bits, and ive had many a story of twincam anglias and such just because of my car, from people you just wouldnt expect it from. Ive also been to a Triumph club and they welcomed me with open arms. They admitted they werent a big fan but gave it as much respect as it deserved and treated me properly too. On the bad behaviour front, being young, im at it all the time. Especially at the boy racer meets on the way out. Nothing silly, just a boot full. But i went to an old codger meet and a guy in his late 50's id say, infront of me in his proper genuine 60's cobra 289 gave it some on the way out of the carpark, sideways, with me following, and most of the people there where clapping and cheering. It goes to show stereotypes arent always right. (they normally are though, thats why they get them in the first place).
D4N Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 As much as i love to see a escort, cortina, anglia etc with a cossie zetec or a fully tuned pinto etc. I like to see MUCH more a mint spot less standard car. Just my thoughts and im sure most of you will agree. We have never had problems with people bad mouthing the escort. But then again it dosnt come out to play much.
garyv6100e Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I have attended a few different type of meets this year including one which was promoted by the lotus cortina club in surrey , I turn up there in my 100E and most of the lotus guys came over had a friendly chat asking about the mods etc made to feel very welcome although most of them were of the tweed jacket and real ale sorts . Car nuts of any sort have a common thread , the love of old cars
petrolhead Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 I've always had completely the opposite experience. Mini owners in particular will lift a hand in mutual recognition. If there is an MG about I often go over and have a chat (wth the owner), I've never met an unfriendly classic car owner yet. As for the Max Plastic brigade, they seem to bloody love my car. If I beat them or they beat me (not often) at the traffic light grand prix I always give them the at the next lights. Admittedly, many don't know what a Mk2 Escort is, but they can guess from the sound and stance that it is something special. I would say the main group I have found that really don't like OSF's is women. Many just don't understand why you would want a loud boxy old car. There's not a lot of point explaining cos they'll never get it. I always say that you don't have to like RWD Escorts but if you don't respect them or know what they look like then you really don't know your cars.
antz Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Posted September 3, 2008 the classic car owners up here are completely different. fords are hated and seen as the boy racers
tim Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 the classic car owners up here are completely different. fords are hated and seen as the boy racers the fact you gate crash other events might not help that, from past experience tryin to orginise an event is hard enough with out big groups 'gate crashing',they might hate you less if you ask before hand
richie_stix Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 every one i meet loves my car, specially young ladies.... plus isn't being right about something when everyone else is wrong a superior feeling?! get over it antz
mk1super Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Was at a Show on Sunday and the Evo/Jap brigade and boy racer lot had nothing but respect for the Osf's in attendance i even over heard one saying While looking at a Mk1 Rs2000 "These things are like Dinosaurs but by f**k they can shift" So we arent hated by everyone
Copey Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 never had any problems with mine either, everyone seems to love it

countrybumpkin Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 every one i meet loves my car, specially young ladies.... plus isn't being right about something when everyone else is wrong a superior feeling?! get over it antz i totaly agree with that the ladies love osf's i've pulled seveal times with my escort but i do think a lot of classic car owners are snobby and look down on fords as being common
