right, ive taken the old clutch off the zetec, taken it down to get my replacement, got it, and put the replacement back on.

i have replaced the release bearing too before anyone says anything lol.

while putting the gearbox back on we managed to get it slot through the clutch teeth and into the central spline (we think:S) it holds its own weight here, and we have managed to get it ~ half an inch/ quarter of an inch between the bellhousing and the engine and the gearbox wont move at all from here.

it will rotate on the middle shaft but thats bout it!

from here we put two bolts in the holes between the box n the engine to locate it properly, no luck, the bellhousing is now over the flywheel, equal on all sides but still wont budge this last half inch????

what have i done wrong????

im looking for the housing for type 9 to zetec mod...

any comanys to go to???

Thanks, sorry im no help...

p.s. use a bolt the same size as gearbox spline (use tape to make tight/fit)

to centre the clutch plate and tighten, if you don't have aclutch tool that is.

hope thats help.

If you have checked all the obvious and are still stuck Dave Colledge at Retro Ford will probably be able to help, he must be doing this all the time. He advertises on here.

Try 105speed.com, Neil has had an alloy bellhousing made for this conversion, have bought one for my zetec to type9 to go in my anglia.

i just used the type9 gearbox to the standard pinto bellhousing...... the bolts all line up, whats the problem in that????

after sleeping on it ive decided ive been a very silly boy and only aligned the clutch plate to the fingers.... and not the centre of the crankshaft

(makes sence really!)

so back out comes the gearbox and in goes a nice long pole

:oops: bleedin heck, that thing is damn heavy!!

whilst you have the box out check the measurement of the gearbox shaft and the hole in the crank because it sound's like the shaft could be to long and might need shortening and that might be why there is a bellhousing being made for it or could the bellhousing be fowling on the clutch stopping it from going on

=) i have just replaced the clutch i.e. took one out and put an identicle one back in!

doubt it could be that, although ill check the inside of the bellhousing when its out for fowling on the clutch housing as ive got the bigger (either) st170 one or tdci one so that might be fouling.... good idea!!

i am using a standard bellhousing with a type9 gearbox

using a sierra release bearing and a 1.8 zetec clutch and housing

but when i got it replaced i got a heavy duty kit for tdci zetec from a mk2 mondeo and this fits streight up. although the clutch is a tad heavy at times being cable clutch. but im sure ill get used to it, least itll take the torque from the engine this time lol.

thanx for ur advice guys, it was a combination between the bellhousing fouling on the exhaust manifold and the clutch not being aligned properly. now its in and working, yay!!!!

much appreciated!
