Hi lads and ladies

Im in a spot of bother at the moment, As im looking at getting a mk1 escort as my first car and daily driver  . Only problem is most of the escorts i come across either have a pinto/other random engine.

What sort of price would i be looking at for a new/used 1300xflow?

Many thanks

you cant be looking hard mate  theres loads of original 1.1s and 1.3s about....depends if your after a 2 door or a 4 door.

2 door most will prob be pintos but 4 doors are just as cool and many are still un-modifed so will coem with either a 1.1 or a 1.3 engine. if you went for a ghia you could even go for a 1.6

the best place to get an engine would be G.S.ESCORTS as he will strap one to a pallet for you and ship it out. they arent much though cos most 1.3's are binned in favour of the bigger engines. dont let that put you off. a sorted well set up 1.3 will fly. mines just standard with an exhaust, k&n and a good tune up and for a 30year old 1.3 it sure flies!

heres a few on ebay for you to look at (no idea what your budget is but its just food for thought)

this is a 1.6:

again a 1.6:

Don't write off the idea of a 4 door Escort. I've always gone for 2 doors in the past. This year though, I wanted a cheapish car to use for the summer and deliberately went the 4door route. With sympethetic modifications, you can have 4doors looking the part

Also, most 4door cars have lived an easier life having not fallen into the hands of boyracers as can be seen in the ebay links above. So it's easier to find a good one for reasonable £££s

just 1 thing to take into account , make sure its registered as a 1300 or 1100 , cos if its a 1600 or 2000 and u wanna change the engine back , well thats easy, but getting it reregisted back as a 1000/1300 is not so easy....

just my advice :)

Really?! My insurance company bases the rate on the vehicle the engine came from - so If I fit a ferrari engine in an escort I'd pay ferrari rates... but if I fit an escort engine in a ferrari....

Its more down to age and a non standard car.

When i stated i had an engine change they didnt want to know the

Capacity just gave me a stupidly high quote :?
