5hane Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 ok, ive got a few things that are doing my nut 1st, how the hell do you get the front bushes into the leaf spring !?!?? ive tryed grease, silicon spray, a hammer (what i wasnt happy about) and standing on the polybush trying to get it in .. hese a pic if ur not sure what im on about theres got to be a trick to get them to 'slip in' (just thougt.. boiling water to make it softer ) 2nd ly, has any one got any pic's of where anti tramp brackets go ? (on axel and body?) same for panhard bar?, and do i need to cut a hole in the boot for it to fit? and finally (for now) do i loose the anti roll bar brackets to fit tramp bars/ panhard bar ? (because you ant use the anti roll bar .. ive been told) there both r/d/ burton kits thanks, much apprecited
zetecmk2 Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 the best way to get the bushes in is by using a hydraulic press and grease, most garages will have 1, try turning up at dinner time and bunging the mechanic a drink! i'll see if i can find pics
evil knievel Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 lube it up with fairy liquid, get a nut + bolt and two big washers. put a washer on the bolt then feed it through the leaf spring and bush, put another washer on top of that, then put the nut on. then tighten that bad boy up til the washers in place!! works a treat EDIT: Helps if you put the leaf spring in a vice whilst doing this, saves you wrestling it whilst doing the bolt up
5hane Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 hmm, i will try all 2morrow any idear on the panhard and tramps? thanks
Retromotorsport Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 it will probably fit better if you take the old bushes metal sleeve out first
john_3.0s Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 it will probably fit better if you take the old bushes metal sleeve out first pmsl i was gonna say that! the original ford bushes were the metelastic ones with a bonded metal outer case. get a haksaw blade, cut a slit through them and chisel out. the new ones should fit then with some elbow grease. I think i took a shave off my bushes on the lathe to make them fit without distorting.

richyc Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 spread the spring eye with a cold chisel, screwdriver after removing all the old bush
hotrodholty Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 so, to sum it up, you need to spread the spring eye with your tool first, put plenty of lube on and then press it in good and hard dont go to fast though some springs dont like that ill get me coat
5hane Posted October 6, 2008 Author Report Posted October 6, 2008 ok i think i can sort that then any pic's of tramp bard and panhard bars then ? thanks
