Airbag Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 My bros car has a crack in the engine block and it's leaking water! Is there anything we can do to fix it? Cheers
Pipster007 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Apart from changing the block, then not a lot
Rick Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 id imagine they could repair one in the outer wall temporarily but it would go again, and if its in the water/oil ways surely its dead
bortaf Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Chemical metal will do it for a while just make sure it dry and clean and get it well in the crack
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 You can repair them, but it is a specialist thing, being as the block is cast. What you have to do is drill a hole at each end of the crack... this is so the crack doesn't get bigger. Then it's all welded up. I'm assuming the crack is V'd out to allow a thicker weld which will make it stronger. Whatever you decide to do, I would suggest you drill the holes at each end of the crack otherwise it will just get worse. They only have to be small holes... something like an 8th of an inch
Toby Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Where is the crack? Can you post a pic? Metal stitching is a posibiltity.... http://www.slinden.co.uk/ It's expensive though so it might be best if the putty doesn't fix it to replace it with another one.
