qwerty Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Was musing this morning as I was lying in bed (its my day off!!), and unlike 'normal' people I was considering the I4 DOHC engine. This engine came in the Sierra in 2 litre 8v form with 125hp. It came in the Mk5 RS2000 With 150+hp and in the Scorpio with 145hp. I remebered reading in a Fast Ford from a few years ago about replacing the 2.0 with a 2.3 in the FWD RS2000's. To good affect...... I imagine a 2.3 with some RS2000 cams and a decent exhaust and Manifold with some 45's or TB's would make impressive power!! Would be different and nice and torquey. So I was just wondering has anyone dropped one into their older RWD Ford? How easy or hard is it? I imagine there's gunna be alot of people saying that the Zetec is a better engine but I thought I'd ask.
5hane Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 im sure joker might have a serria dohc engine in his mk1 drag car.. look over in the malta drag racing section
Wessie Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 theres a few running about martys got one in his anglia, theres one fitted in a mk2 and i'v got 2,2.0 engines under the bench if your interested? theres also a very powerful 16v escort running about
qwerty Posted November 10, 2008 Author Report Posted November 10, 2008 I'm glad to hear its been done. Makes the Idea less daunting. I'll try and find those other cars searching the forum brought up nothing. Are the I4 engines as untunable as they're reputed to be? Surely a 16v one would be a good base engine. There's plenty of cams etc available for the FWD RS2000's and with the 8v and 2.3 being available in RWD form mounting it must be made easier? Its something I fancy doing.
Wessie Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 martys running an 8v 2.0 lump, nice and torquey, reliable power and still see's 130 uprated cams are available, theres also an inlet manifold for twin weber's about on ebay but the fuel injection is good, chips are available for the standard ECU. get a decent manifold made or bought for it. gearbox wise you can run the standard MT75 or a type 9 with a few mods. i've seen these engines dry sumped aswel i've also got a ported head in the shed that i need to sell

Retromotorsport Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Its best to ask someone who has fitted one wether they would do it again .. No.. I wouldnt Its heavy, not a lot of parts are of the shelf, things need moving around, inlet manifolds are scarce now I belive, at the Time, Aldon had 5 cast, dont know if they have done anymore. To instal it with a wet sump your looking at moving the bulkhead back a bit, and raising the gearbox tunnel and prop tunnel unless you want the tailshaft dragging on the ground, then you need an exhaust manifold ... at the end of that, you have an engine thats heavy and produces around 190-200 bhp ... Niel Roper gets that from Zetecs for lot less and they fit the car
