ChristophStone Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Ebay Capri It's 5 minutes from me and I want to go check it out, but I have no garage and no time, so if I decided to use it as a blank canvas I'd have to get it taken straight to a bodyshop/restorer to get it back on the road. How much is that likely to cost? I like the idea of being able to do my own thing with it. but then again if it's going to be mega bucks I don't have the finances. It would need a pinto and manual 'box conversion to suit my tastes, and any brake/suspension/fuel line repairs to get it roadworthy, then body work and respray. How much would this cost at somewhere like Capri Restorations, or similar shops? Just mulling things over at the moment. Ebay Capri
Savvi Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Stick a link up so people can see which one your looking at.
ChristophStone Posted November 11, 2008 Author Report Posted November 11, 2008 It's at the top of my original post mate?
evil knievel Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Ebay Capri is a clicky mate i think any mk1 is worth restoring but these things take time! i'd say do it... get it running before paint though. excellent.
caprinerd Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 ive seen alot worse put back into commision think its worth doing what are you tinking ...... orignal or modded
ChristophStone Posted November 11, 2008 Author Report Posted November 11, 2008 It's all a question of cost. 2.0 pinto + gearbox + everything to do the conversion new brake and fuel parts suspension mechanics bodywork repairs prep and paint None of it I can do myself. So I'd have to hand it over to a shop and give the a load of cash and a timescale to get it sorted. I just don't know how long that would take and how much it would cost. There's another yellow mk1 on ebay at the moment with the reserve set at £3500 - it's not a colour I'd chose but it has uprates suspension and brakes, pinto engine and five speed box, it's all done and no work needed. So i's a toss up between getting everything in one package but compromising on colour etc, or starting from scratch with a shall and spending possibly much more.
oliver Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I dont think you would have to spend much on that to get it the way you want it. Depending on purchase price obviously. But it looks very straight and clean so no real resto work needed. As said get it motd and do it as you go.
caprinerd Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 it`ll cost more to go standard than go modded as its a preface lift with a flat bonnet
richie_stix Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 that looks too good an opportunity to miss! most bits you need can be had second hand... and you would be amazd at what a wire brush and a lick of hamerite can do to things such as axles and crossmembers!
sparkycapri Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I can come & have a look at it with you if you like & give you an idea what it will cost to sort out, i can recommend a few places that may be able to under take the work for you, so you dont have to worry about buying a lemon & getting ripped off
ChristophStone Posted November 12, 2008 Author Report Posted November 12, 2008 Does anyone know what this sort of work would cost? Just to get it on the road, with a pinto and 5 speed box, in primer if necessary, and then on to the prep and paint? My real worry is that I would need to trailor it straight from wherever it is now to a bodyshop, because I have nowhere to put it here. And I have no trailor and no pulling car! Sparky, thanks for your offer. I will ring the guy tomorrow morning and see when he is available, then call/text you if that's ok? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to this, I just want a nice car really. I've done up an old austin before, from the ground up, but that was in a dry workshop with all the parts clean and ready to go on! Cheers everyone Chris
zetecmk2 Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 that's crying out to be modded!!!! go for it
ChristophStone Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 I got outbid by £50. Gutted.
