MEXY867M Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I have worked for my company now for just over a year and was made supervisor 3 months ago and now they want me to become the "deputy manager" which will give me alittle more money but I will end up doing more hours for nothin you know what I mean,do you think I should take the job or stay as supervisor "help"
over_head_cam Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Depends how far you can go in the company Darren, the position might be a stepping stone to better things, so it might be worth the extra hours to get further up the tree. Not knowing the company structure, it's hard to say m8. it could be just to make you feel more important but squeeze all they can out of you In essence - I don't know the answer
Posse Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Stay where you are m8 otherwise your end up working your arse off for what?
pauln Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 work 2 live dont live 2 work Exactly, you can't get the time back you waste at work. spend as little time there as you can afford to.
over_head_cam Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 You can give a little for free, you may reap the benefits in the future. Just be sure the benefits will be there

over_head_cam Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Why not go on the dole? You won't have to do do ANY work, and you get free money and subsidised bills note to self: Don't employ anyone from this thread
bigglesmk2 Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Why not go on the dole? You won't have to do do ANY work, and you get free money and subsidised bills note to self: Don't employ anyone from this thread Dammit Now everyone know's im scrounger
caprinerd Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 darren id stay as you are mate ok i can understand about more money but think of the time you put in now, do you really want more time and head aches from it, have a chat to your mrs about it and see what she thinks wiegh up the pro`s and cons of both sides of what you are doing and what you`ve been offered mate
MEXY867M Posted November 25, 2008 Author Report Posted November 25, 2008 cheers fella`s some good advise and yes I know I would be doing extra hours for "f" all and I do find it hard to do and get on with the things I love in life "ESCORTS" OH and I better say the misses otherwise she will cut my balls of for what use they are now days,
sambo Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Tell them to make it worth your while mate, no-one should do more hours for not much more money. Talk to them to see if this opportunity is worth it. Dont forget, having 'deputy manager' on your CV is a good thing to have for future employment. Its not as though you will stay there for ever?? All im saying is dont lok a gift horse in the mouth??
cyrix Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 In the current economic climate, I would say you should accept. Shit always falls downwards if you catch my drift.
Copey Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 if it is a stepping stone in the company and you can quickly move up from it i would go for it, talk and see if you can get a little more money than they have offered, and as sambo said, deputy manager will bode well on your CV and help you in the future
caprinerd Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 cheers fella`s some good advise and yes I know I would be doing extra hours for "f" all and I do find it hard to do and get on with the things I love in life "ESCORTS" OH and I better say the misses otherwise she will cut my balls of for what use they are now days, pmsl
Admin Mk2Jo Posted November 25, 2008 Admin Report Posted November 25, 2008 How many extra hours and what extra days? If it was me and it was not inconveniencing me too much then I would go for the promotion with a view to climbing the ladder
pauln Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Why not go on the dole? You won't have to do do ANY work, and you get free money and subsidised bills note to self: Don't employ anyone from this thread I did'nt say I was'nt going to give a good days graft, i'm just not prepared to spend any more time at work than i need to to pay the bills and put a little away.
over_head_cam Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 I was only kidding m8. BUT I do believe that it's the attitude of doing that little bit extra, sometimes if only for my own satisfaction, that can lead to moving forward. Or indeed upward
pauln Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 I was only kidding m8. BUT I do believe that it's the attitude of doing that little bit extra, sometimes if only for my own satisfaction, that can lead to moving forward. Or indeed upward Yeah taken as such. I,ve been there, employers take the piss and they think they can make use of your skills for peanuts. Because of my firms pay structure and authorisation system I could take on a load more hassle and responsibility for no more money. Sod that I would rather just do my hours and get back home (i'm only posting now cos i went out at 0500 this morning). Message to employers value your staff and that means cash not promises.
over_head_cam Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 I'm here because I've been a good boy and got the afternoon off Problem is, most of the time that the people I'm working for are nice to me is because: 1. There's not going to be any work next week so they're keeping me sweet 2. No one else will work for them in my field (see above)
MEXY867M Posted November 25, 2008 Author Report Posted November 25, 2008 I will admit I have worked my the round ones off and they have said you can relax more now but we all know that they tell you what you want to hear hey, thanks fella`s
bmxdave Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Id go for it. Im just waiting for my first opportunity to jump up the ladder and if i had that chance idve bitten their arm off. You need to be looking two steps ahead. If you want to get higher you need to look at what position the new job could open up and after the next one, where could that lead? Unless your happy where you are. Ive got a cushy number at the moment, ive worked myself into it, 8am start, finishing between 2 and 4 but still getting 39 hours a week plus any overtime i want and a company car/van. Its not exactly hard work either, although i do work my nuts off and thats why i finish early. Some would be made up with that. My workmate is and hes staying there.
Boreham Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 GO for it... get the guy that's under ye to take up the slack... be clear for the start the hour's ye can put in... START AS YE MEAN TO GO ON... state clearly form the outset you've other "Personal commitments".... (Mk1 mexico...Mk2 van ........
