to all you police on here ive got a question for you

today the police were called to take a look at a local driver suspossedly drunk or on drugs

they breathalised him and let him go as he passed the breath test

he got in his car to drive away and reversed into my car (which was parked )

the police saw this so stopped him again and called for back up

(the driver had his jumper on back to front through all this )

they decide to wait for a drug test officer to come as the blokes eyes were funny and he looked off his head

they did the drug test stand on one leg touch your nose etc and reluctantly let him go

they were not 100% happy to let him go but they did so he got in his car and drove off whilst speaking on a hand held mobile phone they stopped him again then let him go

are the police King crazy ive been a knob in the past and did have a bit of a record and i know for a fact i would not have got away with that

so my question is to you police officers on here what would you have done ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Unreal!!

I was watching one of these police camera action programs, 2 drunk women were walking up & down a line in a carpark to see who was most sober & should drive... the police watched all this from a helicopter & then followed them to make sure they got home safely

Fookin' ridiculous!!

This is not as bad as the above but still..

After a car crashed into the back of us. Recovery came to take our car away and the recovery guy said to the police officer shall i move the other car off the road so you can get away. Police officer ' No its Ok il just stay with the car as it is'

Recovery said 'Cos you wanting to scive isnt it (laughing having a joke) Police officer said ' Yes'

I was shocked and thought he could be away sorting other stuff out. Not like there is nothing ever to do!

No ofence to any police on here

to be honest m8 the police officer was probably joking as well. scene safety would be their responsibility and until the car is cleared if police are there it is down to them to look after it and will rarely leave until recovery is complete

Am I right in saying that the waited for a "drugs test officer" to show up and all the test consists of is standing on one leg and touching your nose??????...........there must be more to that surely, thats riduculous

should have taken his number and reported him mate, when ever i speak to a copper i take their numbers, they actually get a bit $hitty sometimes when you do it especially when they have them covered in high viz vests etc but had some bad experiences in the past and to be honest i think it stops them being such a pain in the @rse if they know you are able to report them etc

I am a trained Field Impairment Tester (FIT). The tests that are done are based on American Impairment tests and yes amongst some of the tests, it does involve standing on one leg and counting, running through the alphabet. There are quite a few other tests to do, but they all revolve around trying to prove whether that person is unfit to drive.

So, say that you are satisfied that this person is unfit in your opinion. This is what happens next. You arrest them on suspicion of being unfit to drive and take them to a Police Station. You then book them, this can take an hour or even longer. All the time your 'evidence' is being weined through the blood system. You then have to contact a doctor to attend the Police Station. I have done this many times and have known it to take anywhere between 20 mins to over 9 hrs!!

Once the doctor is at the Police Station, you then explain your suspicion to the Doctor and he then may, if he decides to believe your suspicion, examine the suspect.

After the Doctor has believed what you said about the suspect being unfit, a blood test is then taken. The suspect is then bailed to re-attend the Police station in around 6 weeks time.

You then arrange for the Blood to be posted to the lab.

Now can you see why it's such a pain in the arse to prove. However on this occasion I think there was no real option but to arrest, it sounds like he was well off his head on something.

Oh and as for ppl wanting to take my number, feel free! I have no problem in telling ppl my number as when I do my job I do it to the best of my ability.

I suppose those who don't want to give their number maybe have something to hide? Personally I would say that can only be a very small proportion of the police force.

in the brixton riots you couldnt take numbers as they had 2 different ones on they swapped one with another police officer, and it was denieghed to have happened, no offence to any of you guys on here, but there are good and bad police same as good and bad public

A lot of things have changed since Brixton

Cheers for the explanation Daggle, I'm glad that the initial roadside tests are a bit more than just touching your nose and standing on your leg.

Must be very frustrating for you knowing that you have someone who should'nt be driving but also that he may "get off" due to the lack of support you have.

i fully understand what your saying daggle about how long it takes for the doctor to come and how long before the blood test is done and the fact any drugs taken are weenimg their way out of the system

but what happens when the suspect driver then goes and causes a accident and worse kills someone

im not having a dig at you

but surley its time the drug test was as quick as the alcohol test theres so many drug users now and theyre always driving delivering and collecting their drugs

Obviously that would be treated a little differently.

However what would you suggest as a roadside test, to evidence the use of drugs? This has to be something that is not just subjective

I know how you feel mate, its frustrating, i know the driver is off his head, however proving it in court is another thing
