Admin Mk2Jo Posted November 27, 2008 Admin Report Posted November 27, 2008 Meet the guy at another address (ie not your home address) if he wants to view the car and tell him that you will only release the car once the cheque has cleared into your bank (ie 5 working days after banking it)
MightySprocket Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 surely anyone who can give you a cheque can supply a bankers draft instead
Rick Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 surely anyone who can give you a cheque can supply a bankers draft instead yeah thats what i thought, and they cant spell for shit either... might just give this one a miss
MightySprocket Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 surely anyone who can give you a cheque can supply a bankers draft instead yeah thats what i thought, and they cant spell for shit either... might just give this one a miss id probably do the same
R1.Andy Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 them bank cheuqes can be dodgy aswell be carefull of all payment.. id follow it up but dont disclose where car is untill your happy..if he has a deep pikey accent hang up i cant spell to good so dont let that put you off cant you take car to diff location just for viewing purpose then when if he comes back to knick it it wont be there
Rick Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 i dont keep it at home anyway il wait for a cash buyer. no worries then
MexDan Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Even notes can be dodgey, a mate of mine got done like that even though there were, to the untrained eye, not dodgey. Everytime I have sold a car I have met the guy at a bank (they always have car parks) and paid the money straight in to my account so its checked by the bank.. perhaps i'm over cautious. But with a car like that mate you have no reason to rush, its an absolute minter and someone will pau top dollar for it
razersedge Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 as the other's said any thing can be forged including bankers drafts the best way i found of checking money is when counting it rub your thumb on the "bank of england" it should be embosed and it doesn't notice that your checking it but you are
Lardy Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 I have had a cheque bounce 21 days after the money went into my account so beware
over_head_cam Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 I'd walk away unless it's a bankers draft. Even then, I'd get him to come to the bank with you and make sure it's genuine.
mk1super Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Steer clear mate the right buyer will come along
Rick Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 cheers chaps. iv heard of cheques bouncing way after theyve cleared. good idea taking them to the bank though, cant lose then
