pauline Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 That my old victor needs a bigger engine I know she is not a ford but she is old skool) after having promblems with her since the engone change and now she is off the road again was chatting with a friend did think of seeling her but i love the car to much so thought i might have to put a bigger engine in her top speed is 70 mph but when she is loaded with stock the most i get is 60 so need some idears on what would fit in her and what else i would need to change what to work out which one out of her and the 100e will be easyer to get done. plus how much work will it be?
antz Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 i thought my typing was bad put a red top in it!
YOUNGY Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 the 100e there must be more parts and conversions available,
pauline Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 i thought my typing was bad put a red top in it! my typing is better today then last night doing it one fingered to day will i have to change the gearbox? (am still learning)
Copey Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 yeah you will have to change the box, what to, i wouldnt have a clue, i know nothin about vauxhals
pauline Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 yeah you will have to change the box, what to, i wouldnt have a clue, i know nothin about vauxhals snap i have to ask a friend in the owners club and use the workshop books.
countrybumpkin Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 vauxhalls arnt as simple as ford where most engines share the same bellhousing patten and to make it more complicated even 2 of the same car could be differnt, theres not really much on the net to help you with such a swap or companys to supply parts so most things like engine mound exhaust etc would have to be bespoke, if you go down the bespoke route you could have any engine you like but its going to cost a fortune to do so i say stick with the same engine for now and try and do some reserch on engine swaps in victors to see what others have done and also to find out if the gearbox in your car was used in any other vauxhall as if you can keep with the original g/box the swap will be much easier
pauline Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 thanks bumkin will have a look i have seen one with a v8 in her and i know a lot was changed looked good to fitted just right in the engine bay. I have some time on my hands at teh mo so looking in to it to come up with the best plan for it would like to do it right when i do it
caprinerd Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 drop a 2.3 in it from a viva/chevete or a 2.0 from a later victor the owners club or practical classic will be able to help you out and as for the 100e its a bit daft asking which you should keep and do on a ford site babes or have i read it wrong
DAZZA Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 2.5 or 3.0 V6 from a Senator/Omega. With an auto box would be a nice cruiser.
bigglesmk2 Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 My dad's Victor is the VX4/90,it's like the RS 2000 of Victor's (apperently) Last time i looked it had twin carb's on too I'd look toward's a tuned up VX4/90 engine, should be a straight forward swap with instant power gain's.
lotusless Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 your right the vx490 lump would prob be easier to fit they were a ohc engine (belt driven) + if you used the vx g/box it might be more straight forward? i'm not into vauxhalls but it would be nice to keep the old girl looking (normal) under the bonnet + if you go the v8 or xe route you will be spending loads on it too imo.
hotrodholty Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 3.5 rover and autobox been done a million times before my dads mate did his victor estate year ago, you could prob buy and fit for not a lot of money
pauline Posted December 2, 2008 Author Report Posted December 2, 2008 3.5 rover and autobox been done a million times before my dads mate did his victor estate year ago, you could prob buy and fit for not a lot of money will look in to that am still keeping the 100e and doing that just having a loads of promblems with the engine in her and going everywere slowly.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 you can put a red top in get a type 9 5 speed box you acan get a bell housing which suits both then just get a prop made to suit the box to youre diff im thinking of putting a redtop in the cortina when i change it in to just a track car
razersedge Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 what about getting a old opel manta or a early cavalia coup (vauxhal version of the manta) and using the engine and box from that and if you decide to go red top later you already have a gearbox and the all important manta sump that you need for a rwd conversion and the prop but it will need shortening
NginEEr Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 ya need them old drums off first before going bigger but bigger gets my vote
pauline Posted December 2, 2008 Author Report Posted December 2, 2008 want the old drums off would go for bigger wheels to but trying to keep the outside looking the same.
