using an automatic choke

on a 32/36 weber, from cold, do i just turn the ignition or do i slowly depress the throttle 1st to get the choke on?

push down once fast to squirt the accelorator pump then let up slowly the 2nd time to set the choke

so its 2 presses on the pedal? and what about shutting off, does it do that automatically or do i have to blip the throttle? im gonna convert it to manual if i can fin a kit.

If it's working, don't fix it. The auto choke set up is a good job as long as it's working. To start from cold push the loud pedal to the floor once and let it back up before you turn the key. It will knock itself off when the water temperature rises enough (same idea as thermostat).

If it stops working properly you will soon know. That's the time to fit a manual (or replace with new auto set up).

ive always pushed the pedal twice tony, ever since i had my first mk3 tina at 17 years of age, guy i got the car off told me to press it twice from cold so thats what ive always done

I am with you, chuck it away. If it's original, or even only half the car's age, it will be on it's way out anyway, unless it's NOS and been kept in a dry heated store room. I would go for manual every time. You should have seen the plumbing under the bonnet of the SWB when we got it, we think it was to force the auto choke to work (extra pipes and a switch over tap!), the engine ran lumpy once it had warmed up. We gave up in the end and fitted the new single choke webber with a manual choke that was in the box with it.
