I don't have any of those (or indeed any other Clifford) but did have a clifford fitted to a mk3 capri about 12 years ago. For its day It was very good and never gave me a hint of trouble in the 4 years I had it.

ive had cliffords before and in my opinion theyre rubbish, always a pain in the arse.

ive had loads of toads aswell and i tihnk theyre brilliant, the toad a1606 i think, its great works perfect never any troubles and the alarm doesnt go off when just opening the doors like a clifford does, or self lock with keys in the ign and engine off. (which is such a pain)

if your not worried about insurance certs then you can pick up one of these off ebay for about £100 theyre not too difficult to wire in, if you need and hand and your local to sussex i could pop over and lend a hand. :D

I cant get insurance on my mexico unless i have a proper alarm fitted and i want my mex fully protected from thieves.

I fit Clifford and Toad ............. both are good systems although the Prox sensors are good on the Cliffords although it's harder to fit.

The door locking is programmable on both systems the 650 mk2 is very good the 950 is the same unit with more sensors.

Why are they harder to fit?

So you think the 950 is the one to go for? I can get it for 400 pounds fitted.maybe i can get it cheaper as my friend knows someone

What about blackjax? any good?

Is there a sensor for the boot and bonnet to in the 950?

Thanks

My view as i used to work for a clifford dealer ,they are rubbish and wouldnt touch one

We even had clifford try to get one to work five times in an Audi A3 a couple of years ago ,it never did the guy wanted his money back !

Cobra are pretty good and ive still got one thats date stamped 1987 that works and another one fitted in 1992 thats doing the job as well

At £ 400 youd be better money spent on a tracking system ,alarms arent the completw answer nobody takes any notice anymore !

Be wary ..................... £400 is cheap to supply and fit a 950 correctly.

The doors, boot and bonnet are covered when pin switches are fitted , they may well charge extra or not fit them.

You can add central door locking to the system although they may well have discounted yours because the car doesn't have CDL ? Get them to leave the wiring available for future upgrades otherwise they will cut the loom making it harder to fit at a later date.

I charge £399 to supply and fit a 650 it takes me all day to do, and cost me approx £200 for the parts, but it's done correctly, all wires hidden the best i can and i very very rarely have any comebacks on any installations i do.

At the end of the day if you take your time and fit correct they are good systems, they are "harder" to fit because the immobilliser wires & supplys have to be fitted a certain way round to a certain point which is normally what others don't do, although it will work, but not always reliable.

Newer cars are getting a nightmare to install alarms and the car that Jay mentions work on a semi can system, Clifford thought they had codes for them........................ then they found some of the same make & model cars had different codes hence having problems.

If your happy with the quote get something in writing to ensure that it is fitted correctly ie : door pins etc. and ask if there are any "hidden extras"

I had nothing but trouble with the clifford on my Series 1 RS. Immobiliser kept cutting in (sometimes whilst driving  ) and the alarm had a mind of its own. I had a Toad on my 106 Quiksilver and that was awesome, never went wrong and never had any false alarms.

It is mainly down to installation tho. My clifford was fitted by a well known company who had a good rep (they also share thier name with an american clothing brand  ) but im told by the guy who bought my RS from me that it was very badly fitted.
