garyv6100e Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 I would restore it spend upto 7k for a good quality job i would drive it (not ragging it thou) even drive it shows but only do apx 2k miles a year in her and never sell it . i would knock the wall out from my dining room into the garage and when i'm not driving it i would be looking at it
antz Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Or spend a couple of grand on a good 4 door and have about £11.5k to spent on modifications! (why spend £13.5k on a car for it to sit on a trailer/in a bubble/ on ramps/under a sheet/ covered in mirrors and never be driven? might as well buy a giant coffee table instead. least you can put your mug on it and get some use from it)
D4N Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 I see everyones point but would you not like some rich basta** to buy it and there would be another mint mk1 lotus about? I wouldn't buy it cos i like to use and abuse but still dosn't mean i would do it to such a rare car.
mk1super Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Or spend a couple of grand on a good 4 door and have about £11.5k to spent on modifications! Erm no i'd rather spend the cash and own a twincam
lotusless Posted January 15, 2009 Author Report Posted January 15, 2009 i like the fact that everyone has their different veiws on this, who is to say that their veiw is right or wrong. its a personal thing i would honestly buy it + use it for shows as it is just do the little bits to keep it roadworthy + original which would get just as many looks as a nut + bolt restored twink would.
Twinkle Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 i would have it and use it i miss my twink and the noise
stickerboy Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 I know where there is an RS1600 which has been in the same spot for 15 years that I know of. Asked again on Friday and the bloke says he will never restore it and will never sell it. This just pisses me off big time but it's his car he can do as he pleases. I've been told to restore my 1600 Sport to standard spec because it will be worth more. To me it's a MK2 shell which is the only one I could get at the time but just unlucky it was a Sport to people who care.
lotusless Posted January 17, 2009 Author Report Posted January 17, 2009 can you get any pics of the rs1600 for us to feel sad looking at
stickerboy Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 I will try and get down in the week and sneak a few pics!

X-pack-Glyn Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Yep, built to drive! She deserves some life now. Go buy it and do it then! Oh you dont have the money? Surprise. All the people saying it should be driven arse out put your money where your mouth is. well, i can afford it.... but would refuse to pay even 4k for it... and if i got it for its true value, and lts face it, its a rusty old escort, so yeah, id fooking drive the wheels off it! its a ford...not a fookin ferrari
Retromotorsport Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Yep, built to drive! She deserves some life now. Go buy it and do it then! Oh you dont have the money? Surprise. All the people saying it should be driven arse out put your money where your mouth is. The real reason Fred wont buy it is she has far too many vehicals to drive now ... As for restoring it and then worrying about smashing it up... well you just dont have the right insurance then. Your car should be insured for its rebuild/total loss value .. always makes me laugh when someone gets their pride and joy insured cheaply ..saving £50 now and losing 5k when it's needed. Take some of the historic rally cars or race cars, I look after a Sunbeam thats driven hard on rallys, and thats insured for a total re-build, look out for said sunbeam in a future issue of CF .. other famous rally cars have been destroyed and rebuilt with new shells so this one.. restored and driven, insured for 20-25k ..and BANG!! shells twisted, 5-7k new shell, 5k paint .. 5 k for a company to swap over all the bits, and thats at top prices.. 17k tops and 3k under write off value
garyv6100e Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 well, i can afford it.... but would refuse to pay even 4k for it... and if i got it for its true value, and lts face it, its a rusty old escort, so yeah, id fooking drive the wheels off it! its a ford...not a fookin ferrari Any Ford with a lotus badge (MK1 tina) or an RS badge (RS capri's and MK1 escorts) Have a great heritage with circuit racing / rally pedigree and will always command strong money but if you would rather spend £12k on a rusty old 308GTB with massive servicing cost's dodgy electrics and an awful driving postion is up to you you can not really work on these yourself where as most home mechanics can keep there classic Lotus / RS Fords going themselves I know what i would rather spend my money on
escortwithsunroof Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 its gorgeous, i wouldnt restore it, rat it ( i use that term "loosely" please) and then drive it ITS ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE
