from a hot rod/grass tracker, all steel, the head has had loads of work, dry sumped, not sure on the spec of the cam but im guessing its a bit wild.

two questions:

How quick would it potentially be?

or

What parts are interchangeable with my 1600

Posted

One of my old mates used to rally Mk1 and Mk2 Rs Escorts and he used to remove the Rs2000 and fit a highly tuned 1300 as he said it was quicker !!!!

Might be worth fitting and trying if it all runs ok ?

Swapping an old rs2000 engine for a crossflow will always be a worthwhile swap if only so you get rid of the racket from under the bonnet but I don't think a screaming 1300 would be that great in an escort, you'd need to rev it !!

Stick with a tuned 1600+ motor

wouldnt the crank and pistons be interchangable ? and flywheel, and head? cam? pritty much everything :? bar the block?

or is it the stoke and rods that determine the cc's on a 1300 xflow, as the blocks smaller. if so, be worth getting some 'long rods' (ask some one who would know, i wouldnt) making it 1600 or whatever?

 dont count me on it

The crank determines the stroke. The rods only determine where the piston hangs in its bore.

The block, crank and rods would be of no use in a 1600 build.

And to answer your other question sprocket, how quick it could potentially be ? Well if it was a balls out race engine 100 bhp per litre could be on the cards so 130 bhp, but expect that above 8000 rpm !! With not too much torque, wouldn't be great in a road car.

i would have it! i seem to remember a sprint anglia with a 1300 on abike carbs boasting 160bhp in classic ford

BOASTING is probably right,

cheers for the info peeps  i've had it apart this weekend as I wanted the head but unfortunately its an earlier chambered one  am I right in thinking this is no use on my later block as my 1300 pistons have the reduced chamber to raise compression. The chambered head will have an adverse effect on this? PLEASE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG???

The rocker gear is a Titan roller rocker assembly, it has double valve springs with titanium valve spring retainers. The porting work is extensive, the inlets being sige MAHOOSIVE!

As for the rest of the engine, all steel bottom end with forged pistons (we thinks), haven't checked the cam yet but im sure the bloke my brother in law bought it from said he'd put in something a bit more road friendly than the A8

The flywheel has also been on the rice crackers and looks extremely LIGHT!!!

Im guessing this is going to be no use to either me or my bro so it will be moved on, if anyone is interested I will be listing in the for sale section tomorrow, then if no joy fleaBay
