Slammed Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 contemplating either bike carbs or 40s if i pick a set up cheaply at the swap meet, BUT i am thinking of doing bike carbs on my pre xflow, what carbs are the best to go for, for economy?? and what exactly do i need on top of the carbs themselves, as i can make the manifold myself. last question to sum up how much will it cost all in all ready to bolt on, as i worked out 40's will cost about 250 all refurbed etc.. what about the bike cabrs?? any help much apprieciated
Durham Fiesta Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 www.boggbros.co.uk are the people to speak to. From what i remember its about 400 quid for carbs , manifold etc fitted and set up, total drive in drive out service
Mick The Cabbie Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Yeah bogg bros are the chaps to speak to. Being a 1200cc, you'll need carbs with quite small chokes for em to work properly. You deffo shouldn't use big R1 carbs etc as you wont get the correct air speed flowing. Having said that I'll bet the jetting wouldn't be too far out
richie_stix Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 two major brands of bike carb are mikuni and kehein... mikuni are the full on beastly ones, kehein slightly more reserved for economy... but as has been said, you wouldn't want anything bigger than 600cc carbs! and has been said, talk to bogg bross, get them to advise on some carbs, then get the carbs on ebay! you can send the complete carbs to the bros and they will strip, rebuild and base jet as well as bolt onto a bespoke manifold, all for a very reasonable price
mk1super Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I could be way off here but even 600cc carbs may be a tad too big possibly a set of cvs off the likes of a cbr, zxr, gsxr 400cc maybe be more suitable or maybe 250cc ones.

Slammed Posted February 19, 2009 Author Report Posted February 19, 2009 sounds good, but i think i will stay with webers for now, 400 pounds seems a lot for me for now,
5hane Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 sounds good, but i think i will stay with webers for now, 400 pounds seems a lot for me for now, that depends mate, i think £400 is for R1 carbs? if your using less desirable ones surely they will be cheaper? also, if you get a set of good condition ones theres no need to get them refurbed? also what happened about that other carb you were getting ??

Carbs off a 250-400cc bike wont cost that much i think its nuts that R1 carbs are that price, trawl ebay and check bike breakers and dont say there for a car as you will never get em, bikers can be funny like that

Stu_B Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 £400 is for carbs & a custom manifold all jetted correctly.... bargain if you ask me! Twin webers are gonna cost you as well, I'd go fro the twin choke weber & inlet from a 1500 GT This is my 1200 with just a standard carb & K&N. I'd like to say it has a nice meaty system but it actually had no exhaust from the mani back when I filmed this Love the sound of a pre crosser

richie_stix Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 the rough guide of £400 is for the lot, fitted up pretty much... a pair of webbers is nearly that much!
DAZZA Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Id like to give a DIY install a go, but would like to know what exactly is needed. Standard-ish 2 litre Pinto.
Copey Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Dazza, set of R1 carbs £50-80, a steel inlet flange off ebay £15, some s/steel tube, bout a meter £15 bend it to 45 degs and sorted edit: just thought you may need either a bike fuel pump or a fuel pressure reg as bike carbs run on a lower pressure

Ive seen the bank of carbs split and spaced to even things out a bit, is this aggro?
supersport Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA-CBF500-CBF- ... 240%3A1318 i think they would suit a 1200, just have to make a manifold up.
