twat-nav is for idiots who cant find their way out of an open cardboard box

Good old map. much easier, quicker and you dont get told that manchester is the wrong down the motorway to take the second exit up the field and off the white cliffs of dover.

yeah, im sure i can read a map whilst tear arsing all over london, trying to evade speed cameras, lorries, idiots on bikes that have no idea about the highway code and what a red light means, suicidal pedestrians etc... without sat nav my job would be near impossible.

I love my sat nav, due to my job, I get sent to a lot of strange houses and farms which are not on maps. If I am down in Lincoln or somewhere I might get an address saying "old wood farm, lincoln road" then theres 2 lincoln roads, or lincoln road is 5 miles long. Most times the sat nav will take me straight to them, which saves me getting lost, ringing my office to ring customers for directions, and most importantly, in my job, lost time is lost money so I earn more.

plan ahead and you wont get lost.

me and turnip managed to make it from scarborough to the middle of wigan, all round warrington and back home with only the use of a AA road map.

sat nav...PAH!

totally agree, I had a couple of near misses when I looked down at a road map in my lap. Sometimes I can drive out of Leeds anywhere up to 100 miles in any direction on roads I have never been on, so means constantly looking down at a map while driving. After that I went and bought a sat nav, much safer.

when i go to 7 different pick up points in one city do you think i have time to stop at side of road and read a town street plan

the people that say sat navs are crap are the people that dont know how to use them , i know cos i used to be one of those people..

now i wouldnt be without it at work or at play.

maps are fine, if you have a person in the passenger seat, giving decent directions. I've gone from Leeds to the middle of the derbyishire dales with just a map, and its a nightmare. Either pull over to read the map and see where you are, or do some very dodgy and illegal map reading while driving. Now I just follow the sat nav instruction and chill out, with a much safer and relaxing drive.

that is exactly right there!!!

when you deliver things, you generally have to do at least 3-4 deliveries in a shift...

ok, so you have a map, you have to find a farm up on wiltshire road, which is a road off a B road off another 4 B roads off an A road which is miles off a motorway....

and then you find out you have got to their address, but theres a street named the same street on the opposite side of a river/railway line, if the first wasnt hard enough, the 2nd will be!

oh yeah, then plan ahead from that to the other 3 deliveries!

in my job i could use the map, apart from when im in normanton, this is because normanton has a main railway line running down through the middle of it.... and theres two crossings over it!

but tbh, typing in a 7 digit postcode and a house number is a lot quicker than searching INDEX for a road name, which... (for example street road, church road dewsbury road... they have about 7 or8 entries, and if you need to find a road (for example dewsbury road, which occurs twice in one postcode)

you'd have to be superman to get the right one first time!!

satnav.... pap pap pap and you're there!

i agree.... i used to be a big time sat nav hater cos i've always loved maps... but like said above, when you actually use one you will be converted!

makes life so much easier! and a sat nav will automaticlaly re-plan your journey if you take a different route... if i made a wrong turn using maps, i would have to pull over and re-plan ie waste time!

but i do hate people who have their sat nav on during journeys like work? WTF :roll:
