GT_Jim Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 I am fitting some twins to the mk1 so i take it i will need an electric fuel pump. I have a pacet one kicking around but i dont have a wiring diagram can anyone help me please
mk1mexico Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 My red top pump just has a 12v live cable, which is fed from an ignition live, and it earths through its mounts. However depending on spec, i have seen cars running twin carbs on a mechanical pump.
GT_Jim Posted March 5, 2009 Author Report Posted March 5, 2009 thanks for that. i dont think a standard pre xflow one will cope but i think a xflow is a bit better anyone know the differnce and if it will cope
GT_Jim Posted March 5, 2009 Author Report Posted March 5, 2009 as in the glass top pump? will i need a regulator still?
bomber1 Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 na should be fine i ran my 40s on stock pump and it was fine. if u put an elecy pump you have to restrict it down to 2-3psi whats the point imo
Durham Fiesta Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 didn't think that a standard pump would be up to supplying enough fuel for 40's
bomber1 Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 unless ur raceing it. im pretty sure its an urban myth that you need elecy pumps
mk1mexico Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 I needed one, because my modern engine isnt able to run mechanical set up.
mk1super Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 unless ur raceing it. im pretty sure its an urban myth that you need elecy pumps Is there any other way to drive em
GT_Jim Posted March 6, 2009 Author Report Posted March 6, 2009 unless ur raceing it. im pretty sure its an urban myth that you need elecy pumps Is there any other way to drive em lol i think we need some kind of osf mythbusters - Ill go grow a moustache
danny69 Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Carbs may not need much pressure but if you up the horsepower you need more quantity of fuel. My old V6 couldn`t hold full power on the rolling road for more than 2 seconds with the standard mechanical pump. Electric fuel pump sorted it out.
BIG G Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 They draw abouut 5 amp so i ran mine through a relay then you can switch it anywhere plus it has a constant good feed fused directly from the battery
