hello people can anyone tell me how old does a car have to be to be tax excempt

up to and including 1972 is free tax (upto k reg). 1973 onwards you need to pay for tax

Up to L reg but not including those L reg's built or registered on or after 1/1/73.

 

That said, it doesn't actually matter what reg it is if you can prove it was built on or before 31/12/72
