Retro Turbo Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Had to laugh when I read the reply from X-pack Glyn. Know Bridge Street car park well from my 'yoof' and also being 32 was probably around at much the same time. Alas, I didn't have anything as cool as a MkI then but a Racing Green overbored 1340 Metro with all the A-Series go-faster bits (come on, it was my first car...). Still it went well enough and can well remember having a play off the roundabout with cars like a Zebra-striped RS2K and a Coca-Cola liveried MkI Fiesta. Happy days! Needless to say I came off worst! As for the CCTV catching you drifting on the roundabout mate, that is pretty bad luck. Guess they didn't go for the "got problems with the clutch" excuse.
X-pack-Glyn Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Dude, small world!!! was yours the green one with gold crosswire wheels? Mine was the (replica) RS2k with the zebra stripes (for a while, that car went through a few of us),zebra stripes were all the rage back then eh!! Sold it to a guy called shaun i think down there who YB'd it! i remember the mk1 fiesta clan too, remember the guy with the coca cola one, there was a clan of fiestas that used to come down from stokenchurch. first car i had down there was a mini with the usual wide wellers, spots, cage etc, and yes, i was the one that had a head on with another mini in front of a massive audience goosing about doing handbrake turns and crap. and we used to pick up 2 door mk1/2 escorts for about £300 with mot and tax still on em!! i was also the one who went tearing out the car park and forgot my CB ariel and magmount was on the roof, went under the barrier and the damned thing whipped back and boshed my rear window . also remember seeing my old man drive in in his suporsport and thought "hold on, thats not him, the car was stolen two days ago" went after the bloke (i had a mk2 midnight blue at the time, low with ghia wheels), overcooked getting the back and out on exit and wiped out the front wing and door on the gate, i went after him and the nearside headlamp was hanging from its wires. remember when them no gooders nuked the kebab van from the nearby multi storey with airbombs and mini rockets?
Retro Turbo Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Ha, ha, yes that was the one with the Compomotive cross spokes! Very small world, sold it to a guy who lowered it so much (think he let all the fluid out...) that it used to pop the driveshafts all the time. Did look good, mind! Heard that the Coca Cola Fiesta was eventually broken up and with a 1760 X-flow it was good for high 14s - no wonder it took out pretty much everyone! Yeah, remember the 'bab van and the attack well. Got to agree, those were the days when it came to cheap 'scorts. The amount of 'em that mates had then and scrapped was shocking. Likewise 131s and Sunbeams. Hindsight's a bugger!
