michael_200 Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 alright hos it going?, going to look at a mk1 today which looks fairly clean just wondering if anyone had any advice for things to look out for.. thanks mike
mk1super Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Pics pinched from Rsdan Check these areas for rust Front driver inner arch Drivers side sill Rear drivers inner arch Under boot Rear passenger inner arch Passengers underside Passenger inner arch Passenger door post Drivers door post Boot shots Also give the car a good bounce on all 4 corners see if the suspension settles nice and fast, if its like a jelly then suspension needs sorting check all lights work etc, also check for smoke when its running usual stuff really brakes steering etc. However dont worry too much about mechanicals, be more worried by rust as it seems more costly to fix than mechanicals Best of luck mate if it isnt for you check this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-ESCORT-MK1-1 ... 7C294%3A50
michael_200 Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 thanks guys , just hopefully going to get this cheers for the advice .. im not to worried about the mechanics just the body more than anything.. its a 1300 xl but thinkin about making a mex rep
Copey Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 alex you forgot the roof/bonnet and doors strut tops and boot lid too
michael_200 Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 Right went and had a look, checked out most bits looks ok not so much rust just wee bits needs patched up , only things a could spot which concerned me was the wings dont sit just right and doors sit out at the bottom about 3/4 of an inch, which may be because there looks like someone has put on new outer sills and done a crap job.. and there has been a sunroof set in it. anyway doesnt come with an engine but most other stuff, needs still a fair bit of work.. its a 1972 1300 3 door.. what would yous think? and what do you think it would be worth? cheers guys
Admin Vista Posted May 4, 2009 Admin Report Posted May 4, 2009 Sunroofs put off some buyers and lots of mk1's have doors that sit a little proud at the bottom, I wouldn't let that put you off.
radar tech Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 two things that will push up the price are its a 2 door & tax exempt but the rest has all been covered, whats the guy asking for it ?
bomber1 Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 does it need paint? how much of the drivetrain suspension missing/need replaceing no mot? tbh it sounds to much but depends on how far you want to go imo
michael_200 Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 hasent been on the road since 2006 or something like that, all drive train is there and all looks ok but der say it will need brakes/pipes etc looked at.. dono if a could get it a but lower it would be good.. was thinkin about £1500
bomber1 Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 hasent been on the road since 2006 or something like that, all drive train is there and all looks ok but der say it will need brakes/pipes etc looked at.. dono if a could get it a but lower it would be good.. was thinkin about £1500 go in at 13/1400 quid and see what he comes down to or not then walk away
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 depends what you are expecting if its a project and youre gonna do the lot then just get it as cheap as you can and dont bother looking too much but if youre expecting it to be solid look at bulk head strut tops wing rails A pannels inner wings behind front pannel chassis especially near spring hangers check under fuel tank and spare wheel well inner sillsall 4 floor pans inner reararches
radar tech Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 get it straight in your head what you want to do with it & how much its gonna cost to get it on the road. try and make a rough budget. Go back & see the guy and stress the extra costs involved to get it back on the road. as previously said start low, i would say no more then £1500 without seeing any pics. remember it needs an engine / exhaust etc etc etc. if you cant get it within your budget walk away there will always be other cars. leave the guy your number though as he may change his mind on your offer......he who dares wins good luck
michael_200 Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 cheers.. i know it needs a good bit of work like, but least that lets me make it into what ever i want to my spec.. i will try and get a few photos of it, offered him 1550 for it, so have to see if he gets back to me, see im in northern ireland and its hard to find any over here but anyone knows of anything else for under £3500 could you give me a shout? so tempted to just give him what he wants for it , seen it and just want to get to work on it!! Thanks
