mk2 escort rear speakers

not sure the best way to go about fitting these, obviously the standard parcel shelfs a bit of a stupid shape for cutting up and fitting some speakers in!

 

at first i was thinking i could rip it out and carpet whatevers underneath but after a second thought i realised how stupid that would look with the rear pillar trims etc etc!

 

so does anyone have a decent shelf in theres that theyve made or know of anywhere to get one? or have any good suggestions on how to do it?!

 

personally i'd rather listen to the engine but the mrs is starting to complain about the lack of musics! got wiring and an amp already in just wondering how to get these damn speakers in and looking good!!!

i think what im going to do is mount them under the shelf (like you explaind) but drill some small holes into the shelf above the speaker's so hopefully it would take a 2nd look to notice them - thats if i decide to cut holes in the mint parcel shelf

I just put two small (4 1/2) Inch speakers on the front bulkhead behind the dash. Literally used number plate sticky pads on the back of them and stuck them above where the carpet ends. Nice and easy and sounds good enough for me.

Is it a 2 door?

 

On my 2 door I'm going to make a copy of the back door cards out of hardboard / mdf / thin ply or something, cover it in black vinyl, then cut out holes for the 6x9's...

 

I've seen this done before and look quite good!

why not buy some old style ones which sit on the shelf or make it so you can mount some new ones on the shelf by making a false shelf to sit them in

think its time to buy some mdf and some black audio carpet and go to town =)

Deffo build a false shelf. Works really well & looks great if you carpet it

stick them under the rear seat and drill a few holes in the metal bit at the bottom of the seat when the screw goes in to hold it

Cut the metal shelf and mount the speakers underneath them.

 

Next you need some thin MDF or hardboard, some mesh, ideally a sheet of thin foam and importantly ACOUSTIC FABRIC.

 

Make your own parcelshelf, cutting holes where the speakers are and placing the mesh over the holes so you don't end up with stuff going onto them. Cover the whole lot in the acoustic fabric (do not cut holes where the speakers are - acoustic fabric is designed to let sound through) or if you've got the foam, glue that onto the board (again cutting holes where the speakers are) and then cover it in acoustic foam.

 

You should end up with a parcelshelf which looks solid with no holes but will let the sound come through unimpeded.
