Applying for a log book for a motor thats not mine????

I found an old motorbike in a scumbags garden that sponges two houses of the council and are never there and have no interest in it. Does anyone know if I can apply for the log book, I have heard somewhere that I can if no one replys to the DVLA letter.

ive applied for a few logbooks for bikes, providing you have the reg no , frame no you can apply, what they do is write to the previous registerd owner and if he agrees or doesnt answer then they will issue you with a logbook in your name, but be carefull cos if the 'scumbags' name is on the logbook and you take the bike without thier permission and apply for a logbook they can and probably will have you done for stealing the bike.

What he said, it's in his garden it's his bike and if you help yourself to it it's theft.

 

In fact if he gets a letter saying you've applied for the log book and that letter contains your details he may even come knocking on your door asking what you think you're doing.

cheers guys, I will have a think about it, the bikes been there about ten years..... the couple that supposedly live there turn up every two months at 4 in the morning and are alchoholics so I doubt they give a crap. I could say I found in the feild behind there house.

Being the registered keeper does not imply you own the title to the vehicle. The registered keeper is merely a person to whom correspondence can be sent.

 

They would be well within their rights to report you'd stolen it after you'd done all the work on it and there's nothing you could do other than get a good solicitor to represent you in court when you appear for TWOC.

I think I will leave a note first for a couple of weeks and see if they call round, I dont want to get into trouble............
