Looking at that, I agree with Scott, an MP's salary (not salary and expenses) are not good considering the hours, commuting, responsibilty etc. It is OK compared to the average, but their position connot surely be described as 'average'.

Just because someone does lots of hours, doesn't necessarily mean they should be paid shed loads...

£1100 a week inc expenses! I think that's bloody good. They wanted to be MP's... why? Because they want to make a difference & share a responsibility in the running of the country & peoples rights etc or cos they want to earn shit loads of money?!

I did say salary EXCLUDING expenses

Well said! And I am beginning to think they wanted to become MPs for the latter reason, not the former!

Look at how many nurses are on a fraction of that, have to travel a long way to and from home cos they can't afford to live nearby, and they do it every working day. They become nurses cos they want to be a nurse, obviously not for the money. They train for the privilege too. They work far longer hours too, routinely, not work and travelling, and have far more responsibility - people's lives.

£800 a week is till £39,000 a year after tax!

Which like it or not is NOT a lot given the job they have to do and the responsbility it involves. I wouldn't do it for that.

I tell you what, let's cut their pay to diddley squat and employ hobo's to do the job eh? Don't fancy that? well then unfortunately to get people with a good level of intellect and education to run this country we need to be prepared to pay salaries that will attract them away from otherwell paying types of employment.

And for the record I am not (and have never been) claiming that their expenses are fair and reasonable as clearly they aren't.

Well to be fair it does sound like you are saying their pay is not good enough for what they do. So the answer is to give them a bigger salary AND NO MORE! I would not want to be a nurse for any money, you couldn't pay me enough, but if I was getting over 60K a year I would give running my bit of the country a shot!
