AdeV Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 Slightly belated... Howdo Name's Ade (rhymes with paid, fade, wade etc.). I'm a big fan of the Old Skool Fords', but haven't had one as a daily driver for a few years now.... So, here's the roll call of past & present: 1st OSF: A Mk2 Granada estate, started life as a beige 2.3 4-spd LX with Ghia interior & ended up as a rather dodgy Gold 5-spd 2.8i... Great car, unreliable as hell but it cemented my love of OSFs... Last seen as a banger racer, as so many of these old girls are. 2nd: A Mk2 2.8i Ghia X saloon, nimbus grey. Similarly reliable, and badly afflicted with tin-worm at the end. Sold for scrap sometime in the '90s. 3rd: Another Mk2 2.8i Ghia X saloon, Caspian Blue this time. Ferried me between Merseyside & Portsmouth every week for 6 months, until she started getting unreliable. Eventually scrapped (not by me, which was seriously irritating). Then a dalliance with other manufacturers: A Rover 820 turbo which finally went POP on the North Circular, brought the Blue Granny out of retirement. A Vauxhall Senator, which despite being horribly abused, never let me down. A Jag S-type, which was an unmitigated disaster; and finally (now) a Lexus LS - which is brilliant. However..... 4th: Yet another Mk2 2.8i Ghia X Saloon Bought in 2003 when I left the Mrs, but she kept my Senator for a while. Daily driver for a few months, now languishes in the garage awaiting a light restoration (NO RUST, except on the bonnet). 5th: Never a road car, I bought a racing Capri in 1997. Originally 3-litre Essex powered, now has a 5-ltr BMW V8 in it. Goes like the proverbial s**t off a shovel. 6th: Another racing Capri in 1999 - this one an ex-BTCC touring car, as driven by Jeff Allam in 1978-79. Am about to sell this one because I want to build my own monster-V8-powered Capri, and I cant' bring myself to cut&shut an ex-BTCC shell. 7th: Well, not really... I have a GT-40 kit-car waiting for enough time to do something with it. 8th: I suppose I should mention the 1.6 Laser Capri which is donating its shell to the V8 racer cause Erm, that's it. Probably a bit of a relief!
AdeV Posted May 26, 2009 Author Report Posted May 26, 2009 Thanks chaps (and chapesses, where applicable), much appreciated
