:shock::shock: Umm errrrr

I shall stay diplomatically silent.

What's his reason for chopping it up so much? What does he plan to do with it?

Judging by the fact he's turning it into a spaceframed racer, hillclimb, track racing or drag racing.

I assumed its going to be going round corners very quickly judging by

the size of the wheels/rose joints/tubed chassis.

what if this was darrans car when it bought by the irish guy ?

Thankfully darran got it back and made it even 'better' .

Was this the Blue 105e with no floor pans and the epic twin exhausts out the back?

Jon

Yep, used to look like this..........

I always thought of it as the 105e version of darran moss's

jaw dropping mk2 escort !

Yep im with you Mark....im sure the guy that built it would be in tears.

Was a stunner back in 2002

Guy must have money to burn, could of done the same to £500 shell !!

Its his car just a shame!!!!!!

I got told not to do my car It had one owner a full, I mean full, service history with 23,000 mile on it I found it cheaper to do this one rather than a rotten saloon shell I looked at. Then again this is a completely modded car to start with but how much did the car sell for? How much of the parts that were on it before are on it now? Could he have brought the car and sold all the parts he did not want to do the new bits?

I know this is more about the heartbreak of a well built project being destroyed but some people do have money to throw at cars so they dont care.

that was the best built car there just hope the arches dont spoil it couldnt see why he went for cantilever set up looked like he had room for normal shock arrangement build quality looked bang on

This was a totally stunning car when it appeared a few years ago. Was built by Mike Howell who has also built one or two other very nice Anglia's. Mike originally sold the car because it was too much of a handfull. Too narrow and unstable etc at high speed. He sold the car on and is currently building a fully spaceframed Duratec Anglia. AND suprise suprise, he's using another shell and chose not to cut this one up !!!!!

Was sold to the current owner Ray Gimbert approx 3 or 4 years ago. He then screwed 4 cibies to the front (which badly spoilt it) and fitted Nitrous etc and upped the power to 400+BHP. Then I understand a 600 brake Harvey Gibs lump found it's way under the bonnet but the rest of the chassis couldn't cope, even though it was built to a good spec & 4linked etc.

A year or two ago, I heard that the car was to undergo a major transformation. Then I saw all the running gear go up for sale incl the Milton pedal box, cage, and the unique Fostek Anglia width atlas axle.

I must admit, even back then, my first thought's where exactly the same as Puddy's. Why break such a car up, (especially when you payed 15k+ for it in the first place :shock: ) Surely you would sell the car on to recoup your outlay and know that the car will live on and start again from scratch with another good shell. Or even a not so good one if you're only gonna use 20% of it

I did wonder for ages what was he gonna do with it having sold all the bits..

SO YEAH, I'M DEFFO WITH PUDDY ON THIS ONE!

The car as it stands is an amazing piece of engineering. I met the chap who's building it a couple of weeks ago. He tell's me that Ray is looking to have a 200mph Anglia at the end of the build.

BUT WHY NOT START THE BUILD WITH ANOTHER SHELL!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

yep nice car before and probably the wrong choice to chop it up but Dang the engineering looks great :ykt:

same could be said about that orange mk1 rs2000 that was at santa pod last year, concourse car cut up and now the same guy has cut up a concourse rs1600

Does seem a shame to re-mod an already stunning car. For the dough the guy appears to be spending hr could probably have a whole new one made ;)

That said though it's all relative too. Some would condemn anyone who mods any car for ruining it

Why are so many people worried how much others spend, to modify a

car that they own,and are entitled to do so? I really can't see a problem.

I think the 105e you mentioned is going to be an absolute stunner when finished,if Jon Rathbones previous cars are anything to go by.

No one tells me how I should build my car,why should you try to tell them? :?

Thing is , the stuff thats now been done to it isn't even nice , the

fabrication and the welding is lovely, but its all about twice as much as is

necessary ,imho.

To see what I mean, compare a gartrac built escort to one of its modern

day competitors , no huge cages or gussets, everything is a bare

engineering minimum.

The original car back in 2002 was a real stunner and was another reason I got into Anglias. The colour, stance, arches, everything about the car looked so right in my opinion.

I didn't see at the show last year but saw various parts of the car go up for sale so thought there were new plans for it.

I was shocked to see it at the pod this weekend but it did look like a very serious bit of kit! Agree though, the original car that Mike created in 2002 will still be one of my favourite looking Anglias to this day.

Interestingly, I was talking to Mike at the show this weekend and I'm looking forward to see his new car. I also mentioned that his old Cossie car was on the CF stand, albeit slightly different to when he sold it. He said it took him 5 years to build it.

Like has been said though, if you own the car you can do what you what with it so it will be interesting to see what the new owner comes up with. It certainly looks like an amazing spec.

In the post somewhere it mentions that the guy wants to go 200mph in his car.Which cage would you want to be surrounded by at 200mph? Not one which has 'bare engineering minimum' as you put it. I know which one I would choose.

ok that confirms it why do that 2 such a lovely car :? surly u would buy a rusty shit 1

I'm agreed thats never ganna look as good as before. I suppose we can all hope its ganna look good when its all finished.

You've gotta admit tho that there is some awesome engineering there... But still WTF!!!!!

Bugger I missed this I was still on page 1, if he makes it to the 200mph mark then its totally worth it lmao

And compare a classic / historically correct car to a modern non-historic escort.... normally the historic is way down the list at the end of the event.

Thing is engines are getting more powerfull, and tyre technolgy has given vast improvements in grip, modern compounds slashing times .... which means that even the Historically correct Escorts are running so much quicker, as quick as a GpN Evo or Scooby .. and the two idiots driving it have to put their lives inside a 38mm 6 point cage in a Mk1.

But as i stated above, i would have sold that car and bought a shell to do that too.. and not a rotten shell either, just a good base.

And maybe the shell was showing signs of age, even with the best will in the world years ago, you couldnt treat shell like you can today, with dipping and E coating etc, so it may well have had a case of the ferrous oxide appearing in place.. probably would have made decent money still though.

I used to crew on 200mph+ drag cars and they weren't as over

engineered as this , imho .

But back to the original point of this post, why cut up such a beautiful

well known 105e when a £500 shell with decent roof and quarters would

have done for this current project ? :?

puddy

And now adays you cant run quicker than 9.9 without a full SFI cage ....

and we'll probably never know why he used this/his shell.. but he did.. and like i said, it may have been its time to be reborn ..
