payne'e Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 alright guys, i may have found a mk1 mexico?? for sale fairly local to me. the bloke says it's 95% complete, needs a front wing, engine and a few little bits. he says it's olympic blue and has had a bit of welding, but the car is straight and solid. now how do i tell it's a genuine mex and what could it be worth?? basically it's a rolling shell. he said to come and look at it tommorow night and make him an offer
Savvi Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Chasis number should tell, then depending on year .............. early ones battery in the boot with a remote type servo, studs coming out the boot floor, top plates and gussets strengthened, black head lining, 130 or 140 mph dash, hydraulic clutch with a 2000e gearbox also had anti tramp bars coming off the back axle thats some for starters
tim Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 chassis number will only tell if the id is mex,it should start BFAT for an avo built car
payne'e Posted June 11, 2009 Author Report Posted June 11, 2009 cheers forgot to ask the year i'll check it out tomoz
john_3.0s Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 chassis number will only tell if the id is mex,it should start BFAT for an avo built car plenty of AVO plates on 're-shelled' cars though. important to check the shell differences too as mentioned in the previous post as well
BronzeRS Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Only helpful if the rear wings havent been changed but feel the lip of the rear wheel arch. It should be rolled right over on itself rather than leaving a sharp edge. This was done to give sufficient clearance to the wheels/tyres so to stop scuffing.
turnover Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 by the way they didnt make an olimpic blue mex only rs2000 but probably sprayed
payne'e Posted June 12, 2009 Author Report Posted June 12, 2009 went and looked at it tonight and it is not a mexico, just a replica. it is however a pretty good car.basically it's had all welding done so is rot free has a few blisters in the paint and the rear arches haven't been blended in very well, it's on a k plate so tax exempt .at the mo it's a complete rolling shell painted in olympic blue with mex stripes. needs a wing and bonnet spraying, wiring loom, front lights and indicators, door locks, ignition, brake lines sorted and seats.it's got 6 dial 130 mph clocks and dash top, billy struts, rs 4 spoke alloys. so all in all a good starting base for someone we aggreed on a price and it's quite a good price for what it is, not a real bargain, but i personally think it's worth a bit more. now i don't know whether to buy it and try and make a few £££ or let the bloke advertise it, as i haven't really got room for it and i already have an ongoing project got to let him know tommorow if i want it or not. decissions decissions
payne'e Posted June 20, 2009 Author Report Posted June 20, 2009 well i bought it and i think i will keep it and put the engine out of my other mk1 and get it on the road. that way i'll have an olskool to use whilst i restore the other and i won't be in a rush to sort it here are a few pics of it
over_head_cam Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 Doesn't look bad m8. Would I be rude to ask how much you paid?
payne'e Posted June 20, 2009 Author Report Posted June 20, 2009 well i got it for £1650 in the end and he got his mate to deliver it for £30 which saved me £50
