Hi all, just wondering what is the best turbo to fit without uprating parts? I heard you can run a turbo at 9 psi without uprating anything, is this correct? thanks in advance.

T3 is a turbine flange type... and a fairly big one at that. You need to look at the housings A/Rs and the inducer and exducer trim. Consult the manufacturers and retailers. They will help you choose the right one but as a guide, look for SMALL turbos. Too large a turbo and you won't get it run in its efficiency range resulting in lag that will mean your boost will come when you need to be changing gear.

Theres a lot involved in turbocharging. Its not as simple as people often suggest. Theres fueling and ignition to address also meaning you'l need means to retard the sparks and provide additional fueling on boost - failure to get these right will result in detonation and "leaning out" which will end your pinto very quickly.

If you want to run more than 6 psi reliably (and you will), you'l need to lower your compression ratio but decomp plates or larger combustion chambers aren't the proper way about it - you should rebuild the engine with forged pistons that have a lower compression height. This keeps the squish in the block as opposed to in the head. Good luck with it mate

Cheers for all the advice, I might give it a go, but to be honest, it sounds like quite a bit of trouble, and I am exactly the kind of person that will explode a car!
