Toby Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Not wishing to spoil the question but all rolling roads seem to come up with different figures.... My car on Sanspeed made 203bhp My car on HT racings dyno made about 170hp with 144ft lb's (171-174bhp depending on the ignition advance) It's a 1924cc pre-crossflow. Peek HP is purely good for pub chat. On an early incarnation of my engine I had 175 (Sanspeed hp) on 2 different occations with 2 different exhaust manifolds. So remember - one engine, 175hp both times, one engine wouldn't run 13 second 1/4 miles - the other (same engine) couldn't miss them. It has been said that zetecs struggle to keep up with pintos with the same power - which is probably true because for the following reason. HT recon it is best to compare engines average power from say 5,000 to 7,500rpm Big numbers sell engines - good average power is where it's at, but it's not good to have average power
Toby Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 One of the most powerful could be Dave Colledges Based on a 2.3 duratec it made 304hp and 235 ft lbs at Emerald It made 100hp at 3000 so has a reasonable "spread" too. Andy Harris' Pinto is phenominal at 209 dyno dynamics hp (235 sanspeed) Ron Harris' Pinto 206 dyno dynamics (got to be up around 230 sanspeed) Both 2.2 ltrs and excellent power figures - Rons has 175ft lbs - superb numbers from a stingy dyno. Mine had 163bhp there with my old head that had shown 200 at Sanspeed. The emerging thing here is dyno's can NOT be compared - which is a bit disappointing. Retro Ford Mag ran a car on a few rolling roads recently. All very interesting but proved how incomparible they all are.

Thats exacly what I experianced here in Holland. Two differend rollers and two differend read outs. Had 30 bhp difference. There's also influence by weather and moisture conditions and temperature aswell.

The dream might even start before the sleep The BMEP calculation is the best way horse power claims can be varified. A well known engine builder (who shall remain nameless) posed the question - how much boost would you need for a YB to get 400hp? If you spin an engine and it can breath it will make bigger horse power numbers but exceeding 190 psi bmep at peek power is not easy! From my limited experience. Mk1 Gaz's atmo cos makes the best I've seen (if you rust the dyno dynamic rollers - which seem quite realistic). This is not to be confused with the most power - as I understand it the trick is to extend good piston presure (BMEP) up the rev range which will make more torque and therefore HP. A 2.0 300 hp duratec at 9,000 needs to be pumping 218 psi This is the sort of figure an F1 engine makes at 18,000 from what I've read - this is clever!!

Mountune and Cosworth road tuned 2.3's make 280 ish. It will make amazing torque though - I've no doubt!

There's also influence by weather and moisture conditions and temperature aswell. Even taking weather into account they're all over the place!! I would say a good rolling road set up is the best money you can spend on your finished project though. Best bet - Find one you like, an operator that know what they're doing, and use the same one every time - this way you can see if you've improved things by fitting your new "widget"

On Arrons rollers He ploted a few more pinto graphs over it as well very interesting Ickys was 1 bhp more Turks 2.3 on slide was by far the best all round. You know he can build a pinto
