mk1mexico Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Not many things get my gears grinding but this is one of them My other half is losing her job soon (was only maternity cover) and has therefore been applying for other work. She is a college trained, teaching assistant/nursery nurse and has lots of experience working with all ages of children and also all abilities, including alot of work with Special Needs kids. Two days a week she lends a hand to a local family with a Special Needs 7 year old to give the parents a break for an evening or two. So when a job as a Teaching assistant came up in the local Special Needs School you would think she was in with a pretty good chance. Nope, she got no reply,no acknowledgement and no interview And we found out today the fooking Dinner lady (with no qualifications) got the job!!!!!!
trakevlyn Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 The same thing happened to my wife shes a fully trained nursery assistant and been working with kids for the past 8 years. She went for a teachers assistant job at the local school, at least she got an interview but the doris who got it wasnt qualified had no experience but she was on the PTA and friends with the interviewer
capri71 Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Sometimes they pick the person they can pay the least.
4parajon Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Sounds very much like cost cutting to me that Graham, I expect a dinner lady is on a lot less than TA. Sure something will come up soon for you both mate
Jiffer Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 My wifes a TA and it happens every year, she suffers from MS and only works a hour and a half a day just mainly to do something, she has never had a day off with her condition and is allways being called on to cover some of the others who never seem to be able to turn up on a monday morning, but when it comes to the alocation of hours it allways seems to be the friends or family of the higher ups who get the best of it.
FredTransit Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Sorry to hear this, sounds like they went for the cost effective option, and had made their choice but had to go through the motions of applications so they could be seen to have been trying to fill the post fairly.
Admin Mk2Jo Posted June 26, 2009 Admin Report Posted June 26, 2009 Some companies/organisations will recruit internally first if they can and then offer the opportunity outside if they cannot find anyone suitable. Also, perhaps your missus was over-qualified for the position but I have to say that it does annoy me when companies do not have the common courtesy to reply ... even if the reply is only to acknowledge the application - it doesn't take much to have a standard reply letter to send out ... it's pure laziness/rudeness as far as I am concerned.
mrs mk1mexico Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Graeme is right this infuriates me Talked to the Inside Applicant today (that got the job) and the amount that she is getting paid is what the standard wage is at that particular setting £9+. So they aint saving any money with having her employed. As for being over qualified i didnt think that they would want anybody that has NO qualifications at all...bearing in mind this person is a qualified hairdresser...!!! Sickens me to think that someone with NO qualifications or experience with working with children can be employed in such a high demanding setting with children with special needs/ disbabilities. Makes me wonder why i spent three years training at college...when i could have come right out of school education and gone into a job at a click. Oh well the jobs been taken now, guess just gotta keep my eye out for another job!!! Non will have been better than that one though, something i have always wanted to do, work with children with special needs/ disabilties. FINGERS CROSSED FOR A JOB TURNING UP SOMEWHERE SOON PEOPLE!
bangar Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 A friend use to work in a school, bcos of equal opportunities they have to advertise the position in the paper or net or where ever. But they already knew who they were putting in the position even if they had 100 applicants and 30 interviews. It was a fix everytime, thats how they got there jobs !
