OK STUPID QUESTION TIME.

I am looking every where for a set of uprated front inserts for a MK 1 Capri 1971 - Rally Design and Spax have both drawn blanks!!!!

Is everyone just using Mk 111 struts and if so is the distance between the stub and the bottom spring cup the same?

I am trying to lower the car, so any increase in distance here will be counter productive?

I am now totally out of ideas :ykt:

When I converted a pair of Cortina struts for my Anglia I decided to use Capri inserts,as they are shorter and I wanted to lower the front, and according to both Koni and Spax catalogues the Mk1 and Mk3 Capri inserts are the same.I chose Spax Gas inserts

Indeed Capri's mk1 till 1972 have differend frontlegs so you can not interchange inserts between them.

Mk1 facelift ('73-'74), mk2 & mk3 are interchangeble.

The dimensions of the Capri mk1 frontleg are the same as the later ones, the difference lies in the diameter of the tube itself. The Capri mk1 tube is a bit wider.

By memory I thought there's an Ol Skool trick. Just fill the mk1 tube with 1/3 of motoroil and stick the later type ( & smaller) insert in it.

The oil should keep the insert in place.

Or just convert to later type frontlegs which are a straight swap and won't alter wheel geometrics.
