andy a Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Spider,I hate spiders now, they never used to bother me and I could happily live along side them, until the other night when I got bit by one... Within 24 hours I had the shivers and my calf was swelling up like mad, a huge blister full of puss appeared which then burst and wept for 24 hours and hurt like hell Seeing as my doctor doesnt actually like seeing patients I ended up having to go to A&E where I was given antibiotics which didn't work, had to return for 2 checkups there last night and had antibiotics by IV and I got 2 more lots to have today When my legs gone down enough for me to walk I'm going to wipe out every spider that I can find as an act of reprisal
FredTransit Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Er, I have been bitten by an English spider before but never had that reaction! Are you sure it wasn't an escapee or come off a boat in some fruit??? It could also be you had a reaction to it, lots of people get a reaction to bites ans stings. Were you given anti inflammatories?
NginEEr Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 only spider ive been bit by wasa woodlouse spider and F*** did it hurt still got 2 little scars off it
andy a Posted July 24, 2009 Author Report Posted July 24, 2009 It was a false widow that bit me, not native to England but now pretty settled across the South East apparently (and East Anglia by the looks of it lol), wasn't a reaction, it just carried infection and it spread fast Didn't get offered any anti inflammatories, but I have to be careful what I take due to other health shite so its just paracetamol, just hope these drips clear it lol
FredTransit Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Bloody ell you didn't say it was a feral exotic type! I never heard of that one, have looked it up! http://www.nhm.ac.uk/about-us/news/2007 ... 11767.html What's the likelihood of being bitten by a false widow spider? Extremely low. No one has ever died of a spider bite in the UK and the number of reported bites from spiders in general is minimal. The Natural History Museum's Insect Information Service (IIS) hears of about 10 cases of spider bites each year in the UK. Spider bite symptoms There are 640 species of spider in the UK. Only 12 of these have been known to bite humans in the UK and this includes two Steatoda species, S. grossa and S. nobilis . The severity of symptoms from any spider bite depends on the amount of venom that is injected. False widow spider bite reports include symptoms such as chest pains, swelling and tingling of fingers. Last year a man went to hospital for treatment after being bitten by what may have been a false widow spider - the spider was never caught so it wasn't identified.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 you might turn into spiderman now lol
caprinerd Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 if youdo see one of them your spose to trap it and call in councilexterminator to get shot, took them 4 days to get rid of the last one we had im in attleborough just down the road from norwich
filicapri Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 pic of my pet in Afghanistan,on a rope so I could walk with it
andy a Posted July 25, 2009 Author Report Posted July 25, 2009 if youdo see one of them your spose to trap it and call in councilexterminator to get shot, took them 4 days to get rid of the last one we had im in attleborough just down the road from norwich After I identified it it was pretty much extinct as it happens I used to manage a place that imported 3000 tons of Californian grapes a year as one of our product lines, the Americans introduce black widows to their vineyards to control the aphids and we used to get them through by the bucket load, mostly dead but we did get the odd one alive, if ever you have to pick one up wear a latex glove and they wont bite you, thats what a bloke who used to collect all ours to take away told me and it worked for me , we also used to get a lot of funnel webs through, along with various lizards, beetles and other oddities... The false widow is now common in the South East and is no more a threat than any native speicies, its just the fact that it had probably bitten on something manky before it got me which lead to infection, if I had got the antibiotics when I wanted them it could of been overwith in a day but instead its been 4 days of going to the hospital for IV antibiotics which aint fun, although I'm diabetic and used to needles I still dont enjoy them much
