Top Ghia Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 The MK2 Consul Henry Hirise is still doing the rounds in my neck of the woods. It was at Steel city cruisers show a few weeks back.

sidewaysrob Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 That was highly amusing! I do wonder about peoples taste in cars in those days!
Jake escort estate Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 these are well smart loving the transit with the roof chop
corsair66 Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Mine was a Crayford Cabriolet Corsair. Red Dralon mmmm! Paul
DBrown67 Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 The front of that Corsair above looks suspicioously like an Allegro. I recognice a couple of those cars in the OPs pics from that documentary on Cortinas back in the early 80s. It was part of the Arena series and the Cortina one was presented by Alexei Sayle. Anyone remember it? I always remember Alexei in that cafe near the end when he got confirmation that the Cortina had been killed off and they'd names the new car the Sierra. "Sierra? Bloody Sierra?! What does that say about me?" EDIT: Here's a link to the program on YouTube if you've not seen it before.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fi0EbrL-4yw
mk2 mike Posted September 23, 2011 Report Posted September 23, 2011 Funny how styles change. From jacked up back then to ultra low now. Cool pics though
Savvi Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 My current mk1 van survived the 70's thank to Jay for obtaining the pics for me.
The Transplanter Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 There was a load of tasty cars back then, but in the most part they were thrown together crap no matter what hideous choices people made they were concidered cool crimes you would now be shot for every other red car was jacked up at the back and had starsky & hutch stripes and appliance steel spokes A neighbour of mine did the fog light trick! Showed off his rusty axle lovely lol good times
Lotus 300e Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 Brings back memories of my old four door Mk1 Escort, had springs assisted to raise the back end up, painted the rear axle red, fixed a red fog light behind the rear valance which was hidden from view and wired this into the lights. Got stopped by a guy one night on the Thanet way as he thought my car was on fire, he wouldn't believe me till i turned the lights off, never got pulled myself, but a friend of a mate at college did in the Canterbury area. I remember my mate Rich's Mk2 Cortina was jacked up, he took it to Lydden Hill circuit when they had the Christmas tree lights, not quite the quarter mile of Santa Pod, but was fun watching him, he ended up damaging his axle, another guy i can remember breaking his haft shafts which ended his day
jayremedy Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 They remind me of my 2nd Mk1 escort I had in the late 80's. 1970 2 door with 1300gt engine from my first escort which I smashed good. Jacked at the back, 8 spoke wellers, dodgy bodykit(the most anti aerodynamic monstrocity ever), huge whip CB ariel with CB radio fitted and air horns. I was 19 and loved it to bits, Great times, can't find the pics now This was my friends escort at the time. She still has it now, it's been garaged for 15yrs though she won't sell but I may have talked her into restoring it.
