FredTransit Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 having some bother with me Mk2, had some bolts snap taking the water pump off. Any suggestions? Does the front of the engine have to come off? If so what do I need to put it back (gaskets ect)? Also having trouble getting the rear bit of the thermostat housing, anybody got one, or suggest what I should ask for? Tried the obvious (Mk2 granny) and Scorpio, but they are saying no longer made . That's a Ford parts specialist, not a Ford stealership....
Andrade Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Possibly you could take the bolt out with a tap & die drilling set? Not sure about where to source parts from as i am not from uk
over_head_cam Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 I'm guessing it's aV6 Fred? The last time I did one I got new bolts from a motor factors (Ford OE) and the water pump from ebay. Not sure where you'd get a stat housing. My water pump came with it's own gasket but I had to make the other one with a bit of gasket paper. Not much help really am i Easy-outs for the broken bolts though
FredTransit Posted September 3, 2009 Author Report Posted September 3, 2009 Yes it's a Cologne. Got the new pump from Battlesbridge, but it all we Pete Tong when we tried to get the stat housing off. There's hardly anything left of the bolts, they are welded to the front cover! Once again time is not on my side as Ashes is looming and you never know what they might want
andy a Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THERMOSTAT-HOUSING-GRANADA-V6-2-8-CAPRI-79TF8594FA_W0QQitemZ200377640901QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2ea77027c5&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Thermostat housings are obsolete from Ford I think, found this one if it helps, fookers know how to charge though...
FredTransit Posted September 3, 2009 Author Report Posted September 3, 2009 There's a whole engine on ebay at the mo, I might go for that cos it will give me loads of spares, and taking the front off it out of the car will be loads easier. I have another cologne anyway so it won't be a waste. Seem like a plan?

shakey n his fezz Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 orrr get the water pump off n weld a nut to the snaped thread?
FredTransit Posted September 4, 2009 Author Report Posted September 4, 2009 the remains are in the timing cover
caprinerd Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 if youlook through the granada`s there`s some preped for banger racing might be cheaper to pick a complete motor up rob it of the engine and break the rest to get some cash back
FredTransit Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 Won a cologne off ebay yesterday for £52 . So back to the drawing board....
SmokeEm Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 If you strip one of the engines Fred, I'd be interested in 4 2.8 pistons
