Apologies if you've already had a thread about this but ive not been on here for a week or two and couldnt see anything obvious in the first couple or so pages.

Anyway, what's the crack with these GRP mk1 escort shells that you can now get for not much more than £1500 !

Ok so the purists may turn their nose up but would it not be good to turn up with one at somewhere like Retromotorsport, talk to Gary nicely and hey presto, you've got yourself a rolling space framed brand new mk1 escort with no rust

Great idea but they look just... 'wrong' somehow, the dimensions arent perfect at all.

Still very cool though

wonder if anyone will insure one :?

Suppose it would depend if you used an Escort ID or sent it through a thingy test like kit cars have. Mind you, if you did go down the new build route, you could end up with a '59 reg mk1 Escort perhaps.....

If I have 300BHP in a GRP shell and i'm on the track, in a forest, or even on the street i'm going to want a massive massive cage. A cage so big that it will outweigh any GRP benefits.

So I cant see the point really.

You'd be sat in a space frame with a grp shell bolted over it... it would be light

You would have trouble getting an identity for it & would need to go through SVA or similar
