MM77 Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 One of my local banger boys has just got a Granada xl est with only 44k and its minter ,ive had a row today ,the plum wants to race it ! I'd happily banger race a brand new Vectra. But other people would be disgusted at the thought. One mans poison and all that...
lee_capri Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 dont surprise me mate i offered a mate £1500 for a falcon estate in nearly mint condition and he raced it in stead that' the way banger boy's are
GJUK Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 Yeah, I don't really see a problem with that to be honest.
Stu_B Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 I saw a very tidy looking Mk1 Granny on the back of a flatbed headed into my local scrappy the other day. He's a banger boy but he's also got a few nice cars sitting around that he wouldn't ever race... dunno what this granny is destined for though.
Mk 1 Mark Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 I remember kicking the windows out of a Mint and i mean Mint gold MK1 Granada Coupe with 27 thou on the clock. And raced that at swaffham and essex arena, best banger i had!! Was only 19 at the time. . . . Worth a mint now
caprinerd Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 a banger boy will look at a car as a doner car for racing no mater what the car, in the late 90`s a guy raced a jag estate one of only 2 ever made, but to him it was a banger, i, myself, raced a jan 69 mk1 capri with ed in the chassis number(ed was a development car) did one pre 70`s meet at kingslynn then wieghed it in minus the rear axle stock car boy had that for £100, had genuin ford replacment wings which i cut, but back then it was a banger to race
stevepeanut Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 It was fair enough back years ago, when banger boys trashed old fords, cos there were plenty. But now I hate the fact the banger racers are still going after old cortinas and granadas when there are so few left.
LEONMEX Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 shame to see a minter raced, but as said a banger boy will just see them as a banger not a mint granada. I raced a season at mildenhall & me & a mate started the season with 22 mk2 granadas 3 capris a austin 40r & 3 bluebirds & raced the lot. Don't regret racing any of them as it is like a drug banger racing & till you get stuck in on the track you would never understand. Alot of the bits that have come & gone on my escort have been from cars ive raced so not all bad
over_head_cam Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 that's the way it is. How much did you offer him for it? ;)
caprinerd Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 the reason they go for the old motors is strength put a s.i.e.rr.a up against a tina or capri and the tina or capri will win every time same for the granada mk1 or 2 put them against something modern and the granny will win, better made better metal easy to fix and as strong as they come, i raced the capri in 2003 at kingslynn and it was an old humber that finished me off after i had jack up a viva which was the humbers mate
Ste-V Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 Most banger lads (like myself) do know the difference between a car for racing and a car for keeping.. A rare car looks awesome on the track though If I had something rare, which I could sell on for a grand, I'd race it
