I have been toying with the idea of taking my e36 engine/gear train out and sticking it in a Capri for a little while, but what would you all think about cutting the shell off and welding a Capri one on?

I have an e36 what has damage to the roof/drivers front and rear door, basically its a write off. it would need to be re shelled, but all the running gear and engine is in good condition.

I was toying with the idea of striping it and putting it in a Capri, but I'm guessing i would have problems with suspension/breaks ect, could turn into a massive problem lol

if i was to cut the BMW shell of and weld a Capri one on, would this be legit? and what would it get registered as?

the wheels are in pretty much the same position ...

This is just me throwing ideas around so if you think its a pig of a job or something then just say lol

I know it kinda defeats the object of having a Capri ... it being a BMW and all, but just think it would be cool to have the power/reliability of a bigger engine ... and as this one is just sitting there ...

Thanks Ryan

I would think it would be easier to use the Bm parts and graft them into the capri rather then putting the capri shell into the bm floor pan. At least its still a capri then

Cool transplant idea anyway :D What size is the engine?

You will end up with "The ultimate driving machine you always promised yourself":thumbsup:

Is that not what the Capri was originally advertised as? or something very close to that?

And the BMW is a 325i, it was very quick lol, I'm wondering if i would need the suspension ect? or just stick with Capri stuff? i say that because the M50 engine is heavier on one side than the other, the struts/springs are handed ...

would it be an option to fit the engine at an angle to get the centre of gravity pointing straight down the centre of the car? but it depends how severe the weight offset is

Really how much? And where abouts is it? Can you get pictures? Thanks Ryan

Yes really, my father in law built the car this year and mentioned selling it recently.

What you mention above seems like a lot of work considering the engine fits straight (well, almost) in.

He used the BMW gearbox but retained the Atlas axle.

I did have some pics but can't find them on my computer.

If anyone remembers the 5 series beemer that let me down when towing my car to shakey, well thats the engine !! (A pulley fell off! but its fixed now, lol)

Oh, and the to answer the other questions, I don't know how much and its in Kent

If he still wants to sell and you are genuinely intersted in buying I may be able to get pics

i would use coil overs and then cornerweight it, its only like getting a fwd car set up as most of the weight is on the right hand side depending on driver position

There is a mk5 cortina/taunus on you tube fitted with a bmw 3.5 straight 6. looks like it goes quite well. will try to find the link. Certainly sounds the part. should have more room inthe Capri engine bay methinks.

Thats the only way (BMW did the same, using differend coil settings on each side).

I have seen in real life what will happen if you don't do this.

You'll will end up with scrap when you floor it.

Think it was on the European Ford Event 2007  must be some movies on youtube somewhere
