sambo Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 Ok mate, will get some pics up to show what i mean. The innermost part of the wheels is about 1" away from the coilover at the rear. Thats with 8's on it so the 10's will not fit at all. The 8's on the car fit nice and close to the inside of the bubble arch too, so there is no room in the 'tub' for a much wider wheel. The on,ly option really is to totally re-work the rear end, cut out the turrets, tub the arshes, re-weld new turrets on there, shorten the axle, re-weld new coilover brackets. Also, the cage is tagged to the turrets so that will have to be re-worked too. I just about budgeted for the shortening of the axle but with all that work, it looks like i will have to put up with the bloody 16's.
sambo Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 I'm so pissed off with it i am having silly thoughts about selling it, buying that white mk2 with the WPE XE engine in it and running that about for a while. Nice and simple.
Nick Mexi-cos Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Fancy a MK1 cortina LOL NOT How about Getting image split rims in 13s and you can go what ever offset you require and still have some nice dishuuuuuuuuu
gearbox100 Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Why cant you fit 8 x13`s on the rears , if the 8x16 fill it well the 13 will aswell ? just a thought ?
sambo Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 There's just nothing like a set of 10's on an escort! On the plus side, at least the shock mounts on the axle are as far apart as possible. Still bloody annoying, i might have to have a word with Gary at Retro motorsport to see what he can do for me, although i cant afford any work to be done, he might have a pearl of wisdom.

gearbox100 Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 There's just nothing like a set of 10's on an escort! ? by reading the thread it sounds like you are trying to get 10`s on the rear and putting 8`s on the front ? so not a `set` goin on ? All the piccy`s showin them running 10`s are way to high to allow for clearance (except al`s) , i wud prefere the full width atlas running 8`s on the floor . Just my opinion of course .
sambo Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 Nah, as much as i love BBS, they look rubbish on the Alan Mann MK1. Save them for Group 2 MK2 Zakspeed's instead! I got some lovely split rim superlites: Would look perfect on the car but i think i'll have to sell them on cos the cost of making them fit will be ridiculous. All the re-fabrication, axle shortening and the changing of brakes, my wallet cant take it.
Nick Mexi-cos Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Oh Yes Glad you showed me pictures now , If these are 3 peice Splits You can get image to make you some inners to what ever size you need and they can also do outers aswell mate , be alot cheaper route than playing about with complete rear end set up , you could even make them 9s and keep the look of the outers so tyres size will be better and you will get the look your after aswell http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/index.html

At the moment, the fronts are 8's with much less of a dish so i could use them to play around with and make measurements. The only trouble is, is that there is no way i can get the axle shortened to 'Baby' width as the coilover mounts are really close to the outer edge of the axle. I could maybe lose an inch either side but that doesnt leave me much room to play with. I will be in touch soon i think mate. Thanks again.
