sambo Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 just wondering if there are many out there? I am a bit concered about mine as it isnt tubbed and i cant get out to work on it and make some measurements cos of the weather. Any one have experience of fitting 10's on a bubble mk1 without tubbed inners? I have seen Morleys old yellow one.
Wessie Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 im sure there was a silver arched one WPE used to play with?
DEP Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Not a great pic, someone might have a better one
l j shaw Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 This car was done in the early 80s.......and has been tubbed,

Nick Mexi-cos Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 What makes you think you wont get 10s under there sam , is it due to your rear axle as front will be no probs This was my old mk1 on 10s From this To This is Just over a Month
filicapri Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I get the feeling that i'm not gonna be able to squeeze the 10's under there What tires are you gonna use? I have got 9j now ,just because i cant find tires above the 235,13 inch
w p e Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 with the right offset 10s fit no probs. jeds anglias got 9's on it cos we could'nt get 10s at the time
sambo Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 Cheers guys, i am a bit worried as the rear isnt tubbed. I have some 10's to go on (thanks John) and will obviously need to get my full width atlas shortened but i am not sure whether i'll physically squeeze them in the arch?? Time will tell, i cant get to the car at the moment as its at my brothers and cant work on it anyway cos of the snow. i measured the offset last night as accuratly as i could with a ruler and with slicks on.... the rears are ET -25. The fronts are 8's and the offset is ET +20 so no probs there. Some of those pics look like the 10's stick out from the arches too much for my liking though!! I guess its all down to the offset and a bit of luck.
sambo Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 But I KNOW that car was fully tubbed to take big wheels Al. !!

BIGKEV Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 I get the feeling that i'm not gonna be able to squeeze the 10's under there What tires are you gonna use? I have got 9j now ,just because i cant find tires above the 235,13 inch I have those tyres on a 10" wheel
sambo Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 yeah 235/45's are what i'll be using if they fit (fingers crossed). The fronts are 8" so i chouldnt have any problems there. I will be out in the snow with the axle off tomorrow. Hardcore to the core. better get me thermal pants on.
stephens_xpack Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 excuse the ignorance, but what does tubbed mean?

Hardcore to the core. better get me thermal pants on. you are gonna have a problem - what size wall will your 8"'s run Mine run on 205/60/13 this can look odd as the rears are wider but more low profile. I have got 8 on front and 10's on the back - only thing I dont like is the height of the tyres!!
ratman Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 excuse the ignorance, but what does tubbed mean? Replacing the orignal inner arch (tub) with a larger one to get the wheel in Ie Tubbed
l j shaw Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Have you ever had the 205 tyre peel off ???? as that must been near the limit on the tyre wall, the walls on mine are ok but im running 265x13
you'll get 10s on that Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 If you have a full width Atlas Compomotive do 2 options on 10" ML One comes in the "standard" ET-24 (ie 4" backspace) but they also offer another casting that provides ET0 (5.5" Backspace) to ET12 (6"Backspace) if thats any good to you. Loads of these wheels available in the oval/short curcuit market as they use them for the front wheels on alot of national hotrods
Nick Mexi-cos Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Same also remember MY Car was running with Standard legs and Lower TCA , if you fit Adjustable TCA's and also Top mounts which i think you have your have no problem , Rears dont stick out so your been fine with correct offset and if your getting axle shortened on rear there be no problems
sambo Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 Well, i braced the snow on my bro's drive and there is no way in hell that they will fit. Very pissed off, as i know that with these wheels on, the car will be twice the car it is if you know what i mean. Looking at the inside of the rim at the rear, it is close to the shock. I might get away with another inch, meaning i might be able to fit 9's. Another thing is that i dont think icould shorten the axle much as the spring bracket on the axle is welded quite close to the outer edge of the axle. I might be able to lose 1.5" each side if i'm lucky. Dont know what im gonna do now, i bloody hate those wheels that are on the car at the moment!!! ARRGG. The only way to do it would be to completely cut the turrets out, tub the inside and re-do all the turrets etc. Not cheap.
Nick Mexi-cos Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 I had plenty of room on the inside was no where near the rear shock , get a pic up of what ya mean and we maybe able to come up with some ideas , PM me if ya like fella and i will bell ya
