Savvi Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Mate if you do as well as next door to me you will be on more than £500 a week. In the last year he's bought 3 or 4 damage repairable, then sold them on and bought a £15k motor home and a £35k Porsche basically in his spare time. To get this he's there until 10 pm at night and most of the weekend, but as he says he has a 10 year plan to make as much as he can then slow down for retirement and he seems to have found the right trade to do that !!!!!
5hane Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 yer i think so too lol, im being conservative theres some one on a diffrent webstie, who does blow overs for £400 (iirc) so for that he goes over the body with proably a 600? maby a grey scotch, and adds paint, which is easy and do able in a day (As thats all they do, no door shuts, no polishing, no dent removal ) so £400 for a (long) days work aint bad, 2 a week would be nice ! and its pritty cheap for the customer
lead foot Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 one of the body shops that i eorked in had "beaters" earnig £900 pw we were on a bonus scheme, i made good money there
DAZZA Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Well Shane, youve obviously sat down and thought about your future, not many people your age do, so top respect for that. My Father and Grandfather wer mechanics, they did everything they could to steer me away from it.... and just keep it as a hobby. However, some people on here have turned their hobby into an enjoyable and profitable outfit, so its just what you make it really..... lots of hard work. Im glad I never went into it, as even as a hobby it stresses me out and as a result just dont think I could do it as a career! Personally, I think bodyshops are the better option, they can make serious money, but if its happiness your after, just stay out of debt and take each day as it comes! Good luck in any path you take young man.
escort new boy Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Shane, im in the same boat. I'm doing a body repair course at college, i love it but im not sure ill love it in 10 years time. I'm mainly thinking of the money too, if you went into teaching an went to the bodywork side you could earn upto £16 an hour which isn't to bad at all. Whereas working in a garage you'd be earning upto £10 an hour
Yeomans22 Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 if cars is what you enjoy, then you might aswell do something with them , i know afew people who have been to colege and uni, and are now sitting at home with no jobs, people will always crash cars, you can always one day open your own garage, buy damaged cars and fix them and sell them on. what college are you doing your body work course at Jack?
escort new boy Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Sandwell mate, off the hagley road. Bit of a treck
mk2harrier Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 hello Shane, i joined the Royal Navy at 17 and became an Aircraft Engineer, i travelled all over the place and really enjoyed it but was dissapointed by the way you are treated like a number and not a person so i left. using the qualifications i gain in the navy whilst travelling to other countries getting pi55ed, i now work on the railway as an on track machine operator/fitter/driver and the pay is really good (over 35k), you get to drive a 90tonne machine across the country, use sophisticated equipment that aligns track to set geometry and repair and maintain it; this includes metal work, hydraulics, pnumatics, electric and electronic. every day is differant and i get to play with my cars at home. sorry its long winded but i wanted to show you that you dont have to stay in the same job all your life just make sure you enjoy it and if its not doing it for you anymore just retrain and look for something better that suits you. good luck m8

So used the experience and training I received in the Navy to good effect and now have an excellent job.
PIG Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 fook me do something you are happy doing, fook the money son.i have just got made redundant from a job earning me 42tho plus bonuses etc and tbh it has been a pain in the ares for the last 2 years.the money was a bonus granted,i have since got another job with half decent propects granted at a huge pay cut but i honestly have never felt happier and healthy.if you do a job just for the money you are wasting your time and life imho.
5hane Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 DAZZA, i know its 90% about being happy than earning loads of money, thats why im on ~£2 a hour... (iirc £4 somming is minimum wadge.. i do from 9-6) i would defo rather be in a bodyshop than a shop beelzebubs, i worked in Platinum bodyworks ltd, they do mainly insurance work. I did mostly stripping and fitting, and sometimes washed cars hardly did any propper bodywork really my current place i do tonnes of bodywork though I keep chatting to me dad about clearing his lockup (8 cars spaces ! - currently full of CRAP cuse of his mate ) and starting to do some work on our cars, but then try get a few jobs and start up sorta? the only poblem i can see, why would some one hand there pride and joy over to a random 17/18 year old to do there bodywork and finishing ? i think im going to start practising lead loading, and do a bit of spraying Cheers gurys
bangar Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 I had a similar problem a few years back. I sold cars for a main dealer and you will earn over 35k once you get into the swing of things on the plus side you get a new car every 3-6 months. And i love cars, moderns not so much but it puts food on the table and money in your pocket.
