Not every mot tester is going to be able to see if the car has been moded!

some of the young mot testers would of never seen the underside of a old skool ford!

sure there will be to many loop holes! cant see it working to well!

time will tell!

Think you have hit the nail on the head there, when i mot'd my escort last young lads at centre had not a clue what they were supposed to be looking for.:lol:

That's exactly what I am thinking, my MOTer actually knows what a Mk2 transit looks like but what we have had done is not what you would call shonky or even prominent. I think i will take me chances, as just about anything from the 70s and 80s won't get through a BIVA test without loads of chnges, let alone the £450 test fee! That's money I would rather spend on tyres, insurance and road tax!

i posted about this on a different site and was advised it was not true and they removed the post????

some of the response -

what the ace site doesnt tell you is that only applies to cars 10 years or younger, that is a direct responce from the vosa inspectorate.

now im confused

vosa's wording- well some of it!

from vosa, its a 8 page document but will cut to the chase with the important bit

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3.1 What is ‘Basic’ and ‘Normal’ IVA?

‘Basic’ and ‘Normal’ IVA refers to the level of inspection carried out on a vehicle and it applies to the following two vehicle categories ONLY:

Passenger cars – M1

Light Goods Vehicles – N1 (only applicable for this category from 29th October 2011)

Both Basic and Normal IVA inspections take place at selected Testing Centres which are operated by the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) (see Annex 5 page 43).

In all cases, IVA (whether Basic or Normal) is only required for passenger cars and light goods vehicles less than 10 years old.

I think we need to see more of that document to get the full context of that paragraph/statement. Is this document on the net anywhere, and if not in what publication is it so we can track it down.

Edit just found it here:

http://online.businesslink.gov.uk/Trans ... Oct_09.pdf

I think what ACE is saying and DVLA have now clarified is that by the modified vehicle not scoring the minimum 8 points, it ceases to be the vehicle it was and the registration is revoked/cancelled. Its on this basis DVLA are saying that the vehicle no longer has any identity. You will be issued with a new identity/chassis number which means its essentially a new vehicle then you then have to take it for IVA then issued a Q plate if it passes.

My own opinion is that: if anything modified vehicles over a certain age (use the 10 years mentioned above for example) should be tested/assesed on mechanical merit/safety, by independant qualified staff(not MoTer's), not this IVA which clearly is not suitable for older cars.

And when common sense finally prevails, that is the only way foward I can see.
