darylc Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 What would you say is the best engine for a mk2 for fast road use? Thanks
Synergy Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 Zetec ...........and here we go again I've read loads of these which is best threads and it always comes down to one thing, personal preference as all of the choices have good and bad points but it seems you wouldn’t be going drastically wrong with any of the usual suspects
banarama Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 2.1 pinto with ported head / cam /48s etc. perfect.
antz Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 there is no real answer to this and the argument will vary for every single person on what they think is best. People with pintos will say pinto, people with zetecs will say zetec etc etc. It all boils down to what YOU WANT FROM YOUR CAR as to what suits you best. Personally I live in an area with a lot of country roads and villages (nearest motorway is an hours drive away!) so I chose to keep my car xflow powered as I dont need the top speed of the modern engines and since my car was a xflow powered car from the factory I chose to keep in line with that. If I lived somewhere where dual carriageways were rife and motorways the norm then I would probably go for a zetec as itll cope with the bigger longer runs much easier than a xflow would and probably use less fuel too. So it depends what you want from your car....there is no 'best' engine for a escort but merely the best choice to suit your needs.
mk1estate Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 100% pinto mate. Torquey, quick, relatively cheap and sound the tits with sidedraughts.
darylc Posted February 28, 2010 Author Report Posted February 28, 2010 Thanks I live in a rural area and I see myself living there for quite a while so high top speed isn't the most important thing. I like the pinto, are they easy to fit into a Mk2 escort? And how about into a Mk1?
banarama Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 the same my friend. you need the rs 2000 sump/pick up pipe. and the rs 2000 alloy mounts.
turnover Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 just put an xe in 150hp standard alot cheeper than a pinto
livewire7116 Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 just put an xe in 150hp standard alot cheeper than a pinto ditto easier to get the magic 200 as well, just have to upgrage rest of your transmission
Tom Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 I've yet to blow up my old type 9 with my Xe! and most of you know how I drive!
livewire7116 Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 nice tran x box makes good combo tho
Mr Sam Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 page 2 and no one has said cossie *slaps* y'all with a wet fish stop being sensible
over_head_cam Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 For the money and simplicity of install, availability of parts and drivability I'd say a Pinto with a type9 behind it. But of course, that's just one option, it's your motor and only you can decide

But of course, that's just one option, it's your motor and only you can decide agreed but wont be cheep once youve spent the money making fast
banarama Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 still cheaper than a cossie /ive had a couple. / and it will last longer mate. pinto.
Matt.C Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 What about a 2.0l 16v i4 engine from a mk5 rs2000. 150bhp straight out the box and will bolt straight up to a type9 box.
