fezza Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Anyone know anything about this,im looking at buying a starter motor from the US as there nearly £400 over here ,i can get one for under £200 from the States but im worried about getting stung on the import tax,is it down to weight or value or both? anyone have any idea on what the likely cost would be on a starter motor??
Admin Vista Posted June 13, 2010 Admin Report Posted June 13, 2010 It;s down to value and you have to pay VAT AND import duties. Can't remember how it's calculated though sorry.
oddball Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 We have had car parts sent to us as commercial samples and not paid any duty We did however have to pay royal mail £16 handling charge Or if its marked as a gift this also reduces the amount of duty paid too. Here's a handy tool to work the duty out http://www.dutycalculator.com/
fezza Posted June 13, 2010 Author Report Posted June 13, 2010 Great, cheers for the link ,it says because the item is less than £135 in value that the import duty is nil still gotta pay the tax though but it still comes in at a few pounds under £200 so im happy with that thanks again
turnover Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 400 will cost you abou 65 to £70 depending on who they use,my bits including shipping recently came to $450 and robbing fedex charged £78
