Andrade Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Following the passing away of the Viva (RIP), i am going to check this out tomorrow looks promising
Boreham Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 sorry to hear about the accident.... and glad nobody was hurt..... but.... if a MK2 Capri is the outcome..... well..... the sacrificed viva was not in vain.. mk2 capri's are uber cool... always though they looked like a MK3 Prototype.. make it happen..
Andrade Posted June 20, 2010 Author Report Posted June 20, 2010 what happend to viva? well its not pretty, it was raining and i was on my way back home. by the time i left there were 8 cars all crashing in different places. evidently there was something slippery in the road, i had been driving the viva in the rain for ages i never lost control or anything so far...... but useless crying over it now i'll take what i can off it and chuck it away http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... highlight=

I still have to go see it but it looks promising so far. The guy says it has some problems in the servo so there will be some things to sort out first. On wednesday im supposed to go see a mk4 cortina in a similar price range. If the capri isn't worth it hopefully the cortina will. I'm trying to add another osf to the garage this time
RossMK2 Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 nasty at least you were safe capri looks nice mate
Admin Mk2Jo Posted June 21, 2010 Admin Report Posted June 21, 2010 you have such a lot of choice out there Andrade
Andrade Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 Went to have a look at the capri, the spray it has was just a quick one, rust bubbles are on every panel of the car. the chassis doesnt seem to have any rust though. the seats are all cracked, the servo needs servicing or replacing, and the wiper motor is gone too Gauges all work, from a distance it looks the part. I will go again soon to test drive it, maybe i'll take a few pics for you peeps On wednesday im checking out a mk4 cortina 1.3L, it might be more suitable as a daily if it needs no work at all
Andrade Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 So I took the Capri for a quick ride - sides: rust bubbles one mudguard is sticking out more than the other as it was in an accident previously servo needs fixing/replacing (we drove around on handbrake) driver side wing mirror is broken wiper motor needs replacing rear wheel bearing needs replacing (we have half shafts in the garage) + sides: suspension seems fine steering is very responsive I love the rims its a capri its cheap
caprinerd Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 bit of work needed but spose thats to be expected at its age is that a 1.7 badge on it ?
Andrade Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 bit of work needed but spose thats to be expected at its ageis that a 1.7 badge on it ? no its 1.3 it does need some work, i can do it myself at the garage so wont be that expensive. but its a daily im after so ideally it's reliable. I'll decide after having a look at the cortina on wednesday
Andrade Posted June 23, 2010 Author Report Posted June 23, 2010 Just went to see a mk4 cortina. brakes pull to one side, the paint is faded, it has a rust hole under the rear windscreen, silencer has holes in it, and the engine sounds like its working on 3 pistons. looks like i'll be the owner of a mk2 capri
2litreScapri Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Great, nice choice. Bit of work on that Capri & it'll look great
Mr2Caps Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Mk2 Capri but I am biased....Looks like it needs some work though, could be a good daily......
silverstreak Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 my first car was a gls viva colour maroon
Andrade Posted June 23, 2010 Author Report Posted June 23, 2010 Mk2 Capri but I am biased....Looks like it needs some work though, could be a good daily...... still not 100% sure about it :\ might see what else i come across before i dive into it - if it wasn't a capri i think i'd walk away. but a capri is a capri
Andrade Posted June 25, 2010 Author Report Posted June 25, 2010 I bought the capri! list is increasing: one headlamp doesnt work and its not the bulb, horn isnt working, hazards aren't working, also i cant see anything close to the wiper motor :S I'm taking the car to an electrician on Wednesday as wires and I don't really go together. A bit of progress: I disconnected the brake servo from the engine and I now can brake without shutting off the engine at least. Repair kit ordered from ebay. I also fitted the Quickshift I had on the Viva onto the Capri. Gears are not floppy anymore
Andrade Posted July 2, 2010 Author Report Posted July 2, 2010 Small update: car wiring is now fine, thanks mr electrician for the express service wipers & windscreen washers work (were all clogged up) slow puncture fixed took out the servo yesterday, currently half way though servicing checked rear shoes for wear but are still fine gave the interior a massive clean, looks much better now Next: finish repairing the servo poly bushes for front end since they are quite worn MOT and start driving it
Boreham Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 ye got 2 .... uber cool motors... now.. Mk2 CARPI is a good buy... nore pic s please..
Andrade Posted July 3, 2010 Author Report Posted July 3, 2010 Productive morning Fixed the servo, changed the rear halfshaft as the bearing was gone, put a grommet and clip for the bonnet stay (it was rattlign and annoying) and replaced a leaking engine plug
Andrade Posted August 10, 2010 Author Report Posted August 10, 2010 This car ended up being a bit more of a hassle than I thought lol but it's on the road now. What else has been done since last update: - Servo is in place working fine - Front end is all polybushed - Took it to my mechanic to set the valves and carb and timing it properly - Lumenition fitted but still running old coil for the time being - Replaced the bearings of both halfshafts with new ones as the one on the passenger side was gone too and the one on the driver side was leaking - Took out the diff while I was at it gave it a clean and put some gasket sealer as it was leaking a little bit - Changed air and oil filter + new oil in it - Put a thermostat in because it was missing - A front spring was actually broken in half there was one lying around in the garage from my brother's previous Hillman Cosworth project and replaced it with that Next: - Oil leak in the engine, I was blaming the filter but after changing it again its still leaking - Stick in a radiator with electric fan because its tending to go to the warm side and start to misfire after driving for more than 20 mins (my average journey time in Malta) - Replace the water pump while I'm at it as it's a bit wobbly - Replace the alternator bracket which is broken and 'quick fixed' by previous owner Hopefully I'll finish off by this week to get moving again with the Anglia
