just did a insurance quote for next year on my 07 1.4 fiesta no mods

it's been kept it in my mums name so it was a quote for her as policy holder and me as main named driver 10000 annual mileage

£4386 with no windscreen cover was cheapest

im lucky and have got a apprenticeship and 1st year i will be on £13400 from september and even with that i have got to seriously watch my money :ykt:

ross, my 1st car cost me £2500 third party to insure, second year i went to a 1.6 16v fiesta sport and the insurance droped to 1100, its a pain but you'll need to pay that 1st year but it goes down quite quickly.

try and be the main driver to get a no claims discount for yourself.

dont use the comparison sites whatever you do....ring company's dierect. get a much better deal as they dont have to pay commision to comparethebullshit.com

Also try the Co-Op insurance for the new fez, been the best price for a friend of mine. He was quoted 3k plus on his newish fez everywhere, Co-op 1900! still alot but 4k+ for a 1.4 is ludicrous

No way, I'd expect half that with your OWN policy, you're getting no NCB's from driving this a year and you will be in the same position next year when you have to re-new. Also, fronting insurance is naughty and if you get caught then it will void your insurance.

I think I paid £2k for an MV6 when I was 18. with NCB's.

So, you're being ripped off.

This is the car you should be driving. Unless you're earning + 40k a year and you can afford this (huge) 'small hit' on insurance.

on your moms car though, if you smash it up, you insurance will need £5000+ to pay you out,

buy a mk5 fiest a for about £800 and if you crash then its not going to cost the insurance as much and you can get away with only third party insurance,

will bring it down alot i would think, also pass plus help a bit in somecases.

im going to do pass plus

the car is mine just haven't swapped name over cus haven't decided how im going to sort insurance

what annoys me is to think all the boy racers that crash everyday and puts the price up for everyone else :ykt:

Sell the new fiesta.

Buy and old one. Insure it in your own name. Save the rest of the money you have left.

If you have a look around then you can probably find a list of car insurance groups. A quick google search suggests that '07 fiesta is group 5 and the one GJUK found is group 3. Pandas and 2cv's were always cheap

I'm going to sound really old here, but when we were younger i'm certain there wasn't so many people trying to run newer cars as first cars. My class at college (1997/98) consisted of 4 mk1 fiestas, a metro vanden plas automatic, a 1.3 mk2 cavalier, my 1.3 mk2 (which was over £800 to insure then. on £55 wages a week!!!), the newest car any of us had was a G-reg Rover 213. And they were all old, granadad-spec and hanging!!!!

I would have thought you could buy an older, but tidy reliable car and insure it for much less than the price of just insuring that fiesta if you tried. However, im happy to be proved wrong.......

.......So purely out of interest, could one of you 17 year olds run through a quick quote for 2 cars quickly for me. A 957cc 1983 fiesta popular and a bottom-spec 1.1 1996 fiesta. Both kept on the street, no security, held licience for 2 months so no NCB. Third party only/third party fire theft , and worth about 250 squids

I'm curious how much my first car would cost you to insure now, and how much a comparable car (14 year old and basic ) would cost you
