zetecmk2 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 and the sump, flywheel, water rail etc is changed over. at least it's not raining just having a coffee, then get the engine in the escort. anyone intrested in a kooltina rolling shell?
zetecmk2 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Report Posted August 14, 2010 engine's in just got very wet, so i'm in for a coffee bugger off rain!!
zetecmk2 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Report Posted August 14, 2010 i've had a coffee and it's STILL raining!!!
willsy Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 You made of sugar or what? You might aswell put that v8 in Kooltina Anyway its bloody hot here in Majorca
dave waudby Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 what you doing putting the cortina engine in the escort ?? rain is shit i wish i had a garage
zetecmk2 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Report Posted August 14, 2010 it won't start on the starter motor!!! the crank position senser is not registering rotation.....diffrent car, diffrent loom, diffrent starter motor, yet the same problem as kooltina had last week. hmmmm. maybe the ecu? can't see it being the ecu myself as when kooltina was bumped, she ran fine. bump the escort tomorrow, if it starts i think i can count out dodgy ecu. something really simple...........but i don't know what!!!
red-rum816 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 are u still coming down for that other engine next week mate.
zetecmk2 Posted August 15, 2010 Author Report Posted August 15, 2010 are u still coming down for that other engine next week mate.yeah, any evening but tuesday
w p e Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 is it cranking fast enough? some crank sensors need 500rpm cranking speed to trigger maybe the starters gone lazy
red-rum816 Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 its all ready for you mate just give me a call when u want to pick it up.
zetecmk2 Posted August 15, 2010 Author Report Posted August 15, 2010 when the starter is cranking, the led in the ecu stays red.(it goes green when the ecu gets signal from the cps) when you take your finger off the start button, the engine rolls to a halt, usually 1 or 2 rotations and the ecu led goes green and when the laptop is plugged in, the live adjustments window shows the rpm, but has XXX as rpm when the starter is cranking. XXX is displayed when there is no signal from the cps. i totally bypassed the ignition and took a wire from the battery to the starter, and took a feed for the solenoid from this cable, spun the engine like this, but still the ecu does not recognise rotation. if no rotation is recognised, no spark and fuel signal is sent, so it doesn't start. i span it over with a fully charged battery and it used to fire from a much lower rpm. but starts straight away when bumped! i cleaned all the earths incase it was this, but no difference. the cps has been changed and must be doing it's job as it will run when bumped. could the battery spin the engine over at normal rpm, yet not leave enough volts for the ecu?
Neil69 Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 Have you checked the live is at the ecu while cranking. Not just a normal ignition live? Power the ecu direct from battery live as a test. Possible the starter is drawing to much current and shutting ecu down temporarily.
puddy Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 Could be electrical interference from the starter, I have had these exact same symptoms before on a renault I was working on. puddy
zetecmk2 Posted August 16, 2010 Author Report Posted August 16, 2010 does interference "start"? the car started last week with the other engine in. i will replace the cps wire with shielded earthed wire, and swap the cps wires over, as dave at emerald suggested.
zetecmk2 Posted August 16, 2010 Author Report Posted August 16, 2010 it runs!!!! all this shyte and all i had to do was change the cps wires over!!! you learn something everyday, strange how it ran for the last 3 yrs with the wires the wrong way round good old rave talker
