Admin Vista Posted September 2, 2010 Admin Report Posted September 2, 2010 So, If I land at Heathrow at 10am on a Thursday, can I make it to Gatwick by cab for a flight departing at 12:45? The Gatwick flight is an internal UK flight so I can check in up to 30 mins prior to departure. So, allow 45 mins prior to departure (to be safe) and with hand baggage only, can I land at Heathrow at 10, get a cab from Heathrow to Gatwick and be at Gatwick by 12? Any thoughts anyone?
SmokeEm Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 That shouldn't be a problem Scott - Journey is 1.5hr max between the two airports
Admin Vista Posted September 2, 2010 Author Admin Report Posted September 2, 2010 That shouldn't be a problem Scott - Journey is 1.5hr max between the two airports Hmm so that puts me at 11.30 (ok ) but I still have to get through immigration at Heathrow. Would you go for it if it was you? My alternative is waiting for the train from Heathrow and getting home at about 6pm instead of 2pm
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 2, 2010 Admin Report Posted September 2, 2010 Should all be okay as long as your flight to heathrow is not running late/delayed and the M25 is not clogged up I would prob not take the chance Just found this too >>> http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/hea ... ansfer.htm How Long Between Flights ? "The absolute minimum time between flights without contingency that you should contemplate making a transfer between Heathrow and Gatwick is 3 hours - and that is with a through ticket using Terminal 5 at Heathrow. If you are changing airlines with separate tickets then you probably need a minimum of 4 hours between flights."
garyv6100e Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 I Think it will be a bit tight on time if you don't get out of Heathrow passport control and baggage by 10.45 . If the Traffic is kind to you it will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour any hold ups on the M25 and you my well miss connection at gatwick
Mrs O/H/C Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 I dont think i would take that gamble Scott... M25 can be a bl**dy nightmare
Admin Vista Posted September 2, 2010 Author Admin Report Posted September 2, 2010 I've managed it before, my flight into Gatwick was late arriving and my cab driver wasn't there anyway when I emerged.............cut a long story short, I was flying out of Heathrow T5 at 11:05 but at 09:30 was still stood in arrivals at Gatwick North terminal. Cab driver turned up at 09:35 and got snarled at all the way round the M25, I had him at over a ton most of the way, got to security and I'd missed it by 30 seconds, sweet talked a rather foxy young BA girl and she let me through. Made the flight by the skin of my teeth. This window is a little longer and I wouldn't contemplate getting the bus as it's too slow. But I don't want to be cooling my heels in Gatwick either Why hasn't a high speed rail link been built between the two airports yet? Surely there's a demand for it?
Pipster007 Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 As long as the plane is bang on time, landing at Heathrow it can be a bit of a prob. from the actual touchdown to physically getting off the plane can be up to 20 mins, that's provided it has a gate to park at. Which Terminal are you landing at. T1 has the possibilty of a "fine strech of the legs" if you end up at one of the farthest gates. Baggage - You could get lucky and be one of the first to get yours. Allow an hour to get to Gatwick It'd be close, but do-able

EscortHeadCase Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Why not ask a some OSF members in the area to do a Cannonball/Smokey and the Bandit style run from Heathrow to Gatwick. Could be a laugh.....
Lardy Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 i think you are better off getting a cab from heathrow to reading where you can get your train to carrot crunching land you would probably be home by 3 then maybe earlier
